Howdy folks. I have been busy working with several 420 friendly groups on Facebook and this blog gets neglected. Sorry, but that is life. Matt Murnaugh's case is basically put on hold till June 22. His lawyer may be able to get that squashed due to bad faith in past cases. That means that there is still a chance that the law will fall on July 11. Anything else you may hear is just rumour till this gets up in front of a judge.

I am going to by-pass all my political rants on what happened in the last election other than to say we now have a very polerized Canada. The good news is I have been able to find a product that I can make for less than $9.00 and people are happy to pay me $20.00 for the finished product. Sometimes they just like the shapes of the pipes I make, but this new pipe has been my best seller so far. I made up 6, I have sold 2 for $40.00 total, which means I can go out and buy more supplies to make more. I have 1 I am keeping so, I still have 3 more ready to sell and I will have replaced and added to the number I make using the $40.00. Next round means that when I sell the 10 new pipes made from the profits of the first 5, I could keep on doubling my money by investing in my own creations. Can I make 1000 pipes in a year? Yes- fairly easily. When they are sold, that makes $20,000.00 in my pocket. Yes, I know, not a ton of money, but it can chip away at debts. The only way to make more money from this is to find some people who think they can do this. Make sure as part of your contract with them that they have a dremel tool and order a ton of diamond bits For them to use. Buy 100 (or more globes)and give 10 of the globes to the worker to cut the holes. (s)he comes back and gets paid for the 10 on the spot cash of $30.00 and picks up 10 more till orders are filled and then you could continue to keep paying them as long as you sell the pipes. I would take 20 or 30 finished and packed pipes with me to a couple of the London sellers and see if they will take them on consignment. Soon I hope to have a full line of pipes I can sell online eventually selling vapes and other hardware. What I would love to do is set up a vapour lounge/pipe shop/cannabis treats store. In this area I would be shut down before I could even open. Soon, within this decade, I will be free to do that if I choose. Big plans are in the works! I have someone I can trust to shoot the "Cooking Cannabis with Medicinal Mike" DVD I have planned. I am trying to find a way for my activism to pay for it's self at the very least.

MMAR challange

Since one of our 40+ issues with the MMAR is the same issue with Matt's case here in Ontario, they (the crown)have tied them together and will see them in the fall. What the heck happened to the 90 day ruling? I need to look into this much closer since it is a very recent development.

In the meantime Dave has been busy shooting and editing stuff and I have been on the receiving end of some good short videos. Go to YouTube and type in Faux Chai Tea and my video pops right up. Enjoy.

Happy 420 to everyone. I am writing this after midnight so it is actually the 21st, but the feeling is still there. I had an eventful day. I created a new waterpipe which was loaded and used for the first time right at 4:20 and my friend Dave got it down on camera. Dave and his wife do work for the local cable station and are doing a feature on local activists (including Councillor Crew's East Side Pride walk). We taped a bunch of stuff the he will now have to magically scrunch down to just a few minutes. Somebody get this artist a video suite!

Wait a few days and I will have some clips I can upload to my Youtube channel; in the meanwhile sit down,relax and smoke a bowl of goodness.

I seem to be saying sorry for not posting here often enough. Here is what has been keeping me busy. I am doing a lot more writing in other forms and doing research. On top of all that I House/Dog sit for friends so I may not have access to the internet at all times. I am involved in a support group for medical cannabis users who are MMAR card holders. We are working on a legal document outlining everyflaw in the MMAR that directly impacts on life. We have come up with 17 or 18 and counting. #15 is my contribution- about 5 million people in Canada do not have a doctor and the only way you can access this is through a doctor. I am thinking of a simple solution for that particular problem and that is have a list of all the medical condictions that Cannabis is good for and have a doctor OR ANY OTHER HEALTH PROFESSIONAL including people like RMT's to sign saying yes, this person has one or more of the illnesses listed. Period, end of story--- That would get all the doctors off the hook. As long as you had that signed form, you could start to grow your own or buy from a dispensary. As implied, cafes and other forms of distribution are also part of the solution. Of course the easist thing to do is legalize it. I am totally okay with taxing and regulating this just like alcohol IF (and this is a big if) we are still allowed to grow some for personal use, just like I can brew my own beer. I don't drink, but it is important in a free society, that if I did choose to drink, I could produce my own without having to involve the government. I have friends who make their own wine and give some away as gifts. We cannabis users would have the exact same right to grow some great medicine and share that with friends, gifts for the holidays, that type of thing. What is needed is education on so many levels.

MMAR slowdown

Hi folks.

This is world AIDS day 2010. It looks a lot different than even just 10 years ago. I have a chance to live a long life. I did not have that hope back then. I got off the phone with my local MP's office asking about my MMAR card which is over due by over 2 months. I gave them all the paperwork to keep on file and to send a request to find out where it is. What do they do at the MMAR office? They just have to make sure all the forms are filled out correctly. That is it! legally I am covered no matter what because when the Doctor signs the form, from that second, I am legally able to use and possess medical cannabis. Police could hassle me but they would be forced to back off because I have all the paperwork at home and at VanKesteren's office. It would be a waste of time and taxpayers dollars to hassle me for not having my card on my person. I believe Dictator harper has done this purposely to try and force legal cannabis users to break the law in order to get their medicine. If they get caught the MMAR can refuse to issue a card. Someone has to fill up those new sweatshops, er I mean prisons the federal government is building during a 30 YEAR LOW ON CRIME!!!, and the laws he has passed looks like he wants prostitutes, potheads and pimps to be the new inmates. Harper wants to clean up Canada. If he wanted to jail everyone who smoked pot in Canada he would have to jail well over 50% of the population. That would fill up the sweatshops nicely.

Getting back on topic... The MMAR was forced on the government. If you have to have a system like that in place, why not make it as good as you can? Why does Harper fight every single change that we have to go to court over and over again for? Why is he wasting my money to go against my best interests? The MMAR has been found un-constitutional several times and harper refuses to fix it. DO YOUR FRIKKEN JOB! We pay the PM to look after our collective interests.It is in our countrie's best interest to have a functional MMAR that is fast and efficient.

I just heard the news, that prop 19 did not pass. That is s ad thing for the world. That just means more delay and with each delay we have more death and overflowing prisons. This maddness must end and it will; the 2012 elections have a much better chance of passing something like prop 19. Now what? After a couple bong hits for celebrating a hard fight that has brought a huge groups of groups together; now the base for the next push will be that much larger to start with. Us medical users are going to have to push harder and get more people informed. Education is the key.

Hi folks. It is Nov.2nd,2010. This day could go down as a day for freedom around the world. Let me explain. If you have been hiding under a rock and do not know that prop 19 is being voted on in California, then now you know! What is prop 19? A peoples bill to legalize and tax cannabis. Treat adult use of cannabis just like alcohol is. That is the best form of control,because the states gets to tax the sale of a (mostly)harmless plant. School kids can get a joint easier than they can get a bottle of beer. Fact! Why would we want to continue that form of chaos?

I am sure the prop will pass,because it makes sense. Pot smokers are not going to go away. Why not make some money that can go to education and other needs?

Prop 19- what will it mean to us Canadians?

Hi Folks.

We all know that whatever happens down in the States is going to affect us up here in Canada. We also know that a single Canadian -Marc Emery- is a huge influence on the freedom lovers in America. Our other Canadian Hero is Rick Simpson. If you have not heard of either one of them, just google their names and you can find out all about them. The other thing about Canada is it will eventually follow the lead of the States (but lag a few years). What Prop 19 is going to do is be the first domino in the fall of total world wide prohibition of Cannabis. The treaty they signed at the UN was signed almost 50 years ago when they did not have the studies to prove the safety and usefullness that Cannabis brings to the table. Time to scrap it. In California they will see a boom in cannabis tourism to the point that other States are going to get onboard to boost their economies.The second thing it will do is lower the cost of medical care. Many people will forgo pills when they know they can eat a candy or a brownie that will safely take away their pain. Many people who are diabetic or very much overweight will see their levels get better and weight will come off, because Cannabis helps regulate the body and tries to get it back to balance. Because of that many people will no longer be a burden on the healthcare system. Since we cannot say exactly how much taxes will be raised, I would put it to you this way; anything you get in tax money is more than you are getting now!!! The other side to that is police will now be able to concentrate on real criminals, not peaceful Cannabis Consumers. That should mean lower taxes and less police. The big story here is HEMP. Farmers in California will grow hemp once Cannabis is legal recreationally. If Obama tries to stop them, he knows he will not get re-elected. It would take a huge goon squad to try and shut down an entire State. He cannot afford to waste anymore time on this and just accept that it is going to go forward, no matter who is in the whitehouse. An Idea who's time has come cannot be stopped, only delayed. The Harper Dictatorship is also going to be swept away by this noble Idea.
By the time Marc Emery has served his time for his so called crime, it will be legal in most States. This is an historic time. Prop 19 is the deathnell of the prohibition industry and as the first domino falls, the others will fall just as rapidly. The other States will look to see what happens and when they see that Obama is hamstrung on this issue, they will also legalize it. How is it going to affect us Canadians? B.C. will be exporting Cannabis legally, which will ligitimize the industry there, other provinces will also join in as more and more States legalize and we will have an upswell in our economy as well. Pressure will be put to bear on the Government of the day (I do not expect the Harper Dictaorship to last the next election- Harper has pissed off his own people with his anti-democracy governing). It is just a matter of time. All the Naysayers are going to be drummed out of office in ALL governments because the rest of the world will jump on board when it has been shown to not cause any harm to society. Many people are going to be cured of Cancer which is going to be the biggest booster to legalization.That also means that TPTB who are doing all they can to kill off a huge portion of the population, will end up losing. People will life free and peaceful lives in about 50 years from now and global warming will be partially dealt with by using Hemp for fuel,paper and food. That means no more trees need be cut for paper which means more will be left standing, regenerating our O2. So many positives are going to happen as well as a few tragities as the last busts wind down, there will still be loss of life till all Cannabis busts stop. Period.
Buckle your seat belts folks, it is going to be a bumpy ride!

RCMP Vs craigslist and prostitution

I know this does not have anything directly to do with hemp, but it does show what kind of governemt we do have that is willing to prosicute victimless "crimes" in order to fill the new prisons being built. I do not know if anyone else caught the bit in the article where it said that there was a push by the community AND THE GOVERNMENT!!! What the hell is the government doing wasting time and money on yet another victimless "Crime". Maybe it has something to do with all these new prisons they are build EVEN THOUGH CRIME RATES ARE AT A 30 YEAR LOW!!! Again that is just a big waste of taxpayers dollars and forcing a police state on us. We do not want both! Don't the RCMP have better things to do than worry about prostitution? They really must be getting desparate. I thought there was some real crimes for them to solve- if not then we can start to look at cutting the force numbers down. If becoming a bully to craigslist is all they have to do, then now is the time to seriously look at budget cuts.

I have been seeing a shift in public opinion and a basic feeling of anger over having our rights ripped away from us. Many more people are finally seeing how prohibition is also a race issue. Mothers who speak up are winning the ears of some politians.They know that when mothers get behind something, they(our leaders) will have to do something. Mothers have so much power. Thank you. Every time a debate comes up and somebody who is anti-pot says something outragious, that just turns more and more people off their message. People in general are being told the truth about cannabis, which makes the liers look all the more silly and stupid. That would include all the drug csar's to date! When you have a father on chemo for prostate cancer and he can't eat and the pills he is supposed to take will not stay down and you find out that medical cannabis will not only help, but is safe, people start to wonder why this would be taken from him. This is a plant that is NON-TOXIC! When they find that out and they see their dad get off his deathbed due to cannabis, you suddenly convert entire families over to the benefits of this plant. That you can grow in your back yard. For free (well almost free).

A steady stream of people are still signing up for medical cards , which adds to a large number to start with. Even with a few people dropping out of the programs, you are getting a knowledge base that is growing at a compound rate. Eventually an overwhelming majority will be converted over because the evidence will be standing in front of them; healthy mothers,fathers and/or seniors still able to get around under their own steam. My focus is looking at that day when cannabis is commonplace and tolerated. Even our Prime Minister's neighbourhood is not immune to cannabis. They just did a big bust out that way. The smart thing to do since it is everywhere and it is not going to go away and it helps people is to tax and regulate it. Make is legal for everyone (under the age of majority with a doctor's script so those autistic children can also benefit from a safe medicine that can be eaten). I would have a set up like alcohol. You can buy cases of wine and cases of boose(with a permit, like for a wedding) and cases of beer, or you can buy it by the bottle. The next level is having a glass of wine or a beer at a local pub or resturant and the final level is the guy who has a couple of barrels of wine in his basement or a beer brewing kit. It is legal to make your own wine. It should be legal to grow your own medicine or is some cases a sacrement(some people use it for religious purposes). You could have coffeshops set up and/or allow resturants and pubs to have cannabis products available. At the top level you would have shops like the LCBO but it would be the CCBO. There will be different grades and types at different prices, just like you would see at a dispensary in California. I can buy a cheap bottle of wine for about 10 bucks or I can get a fine champange for 100 bucks. It would be my choice. In a sensible society, that would already be in place. The change is coming and the movement is gaining momentum. I can't wait.

Here is another thing I do not understand, why was the contract not given to a Canadian company? Who was paid off to hand over our Data to the US? And paid them for doing it? This is the stupidest thing the dictatorship has done. There is no good reason for it. I can see that if the goal is to create a north american union, that would make perfect sense. I DO NOT WANT CANADA TO BE IN N.A.U. ; why would we want to take on the U.S. debt? We would be idiots to do so. Here is another video that needs to be seen.

How does this relate to Hemp and cannabis? The same people who are allowing this crap are the ones we must defeat in the next election since the same big business interests do not coincide with the interests of everyday Canadian citizens. If Hemp and cannabis where free to compete in the marketplace, they would wipe the floor with dirty oil miners, rainforest cutters and the politicians that support poluting our environment. They are afraid that Hemp will take away all their profits(which it will). Fear makes people and corporations do stupid things.

First off I want to give a shout out to my friend and fellow Marc Emery Freedom Fighter at www.danage420.com; check out his activism!
I do not want to focus too much on the negative, but when just so much shit comes up, one must deal with it. Now we are asking for a full public inquiry and the Feds say it is the Province that has to do it, so this hot potatoe is going to bounce for a while. The longer they avoid doing it , the less respect we have for their leadership(not that we have much now). Another sore spot that is not even being covered is the passing of the omnibus bull(my spelling!). Just send us a note to tell us just how far we have to bend over...

We have an entire country traumatized or at the very least shocked. That is what the Nazi's did to the German Jews and other unwanted types. This is plain shock and awe tactics. They have killed off Jack Herer and locked away Marc Emery, so the 2 bigger voices of the freedom movement (which is also around the freedom to use Cannabis, the two are the same issue) are now silenced( at least that is the hope of the thugs in power). I see this as a historic period of time of maximum chaos just before the time reason comes back to the world. We are collectively insane because we have allowed prohibition and corruption to flourish. In November we have a chance to rip those walls of insanity down in California. Good luck to everyone.

Why does Stephen Harper Love Bikers?

Hi folks.

I have a serious question to ask. Why does our beloved prime minister love biker gangs so much? What he is doing by cracking down on the compassion clubs meanwhile creating massive delays at the MMAR is a whole class of people who have a legal right to use cannabis will be in pain for months or will be forced to go to the biker gangs to get their medicine. Everyone knows cannabis sales is the main money maker for the gangs. Why is harper forcing clients on them?

I am sure he does not see it that way, but his actions are speaking for him. I am not sure how much longer he will allow a pesky thing like our constitution or the charter of rights to stop his holy crusade -to rid the world of Crohn's sufferers, M.S., Cancer, AIDS & HIV+ and the like, by killing them. That is the only reasonable conclusion I can come up with to account for our PM's actions. All Con's out there that still support Harper - I ask you what his motives are? His logic escapes me. The other option is to finally admit that his policies have no rational thought behind them, no basis in science; that he is running strictly on Ideology. I guess that explains the genocide he is creating (look up the word genocide- it means to get rid of a type of culture or people). It is very un-christian of him to purposely kill off his own Canadian citizens (what am I talking about, this is the same guy who allowed Marc Emery to be shipped off to the gulag because Marc was a pain in the butt to the government -so they shut him up[as best they could] and he refuses to allow him back up here to serve his time), what is it called when a person purposely kills someone else? Murderer is the term I believe.

Hi Folks.

I just got off the phone with a guy named Wes at Health Canada. I explained that I had sent an email to Health Canada and never got an answer. The question was basically -how does a person who does not have a doctor be able to have access to this medicine? I also wanted to know exactly how many staff work on the MMAR applications. I am trying to get to the bottom of why there is a 3 month delay in processing applications. I figure the first start is to know how many people we have hired to to run the program. I know they only have about 5000 applications to go through ( according to the latest numbers out), when in actual fact there should be more than 200 times that number (over a million Canadians want access to Cannabis medicines). What is going to happen when the numbers increase? More delays? These are sick and dieing people who need their medicine NOW!!! If we are going to have a Cannabis Medicine system set up, why don't we do it properly. Yes, I am fully aware that our Prime Minister has some religious reasons for wanting to close down the program completely, but he has our pesky Constitiution and Charter of rights to deal with. With only 5000 (or so)applications from all over the entire country why should there be ANY delay. Heck, hire me, I will get through all the applications in a few weeks. I wonder if the Prime Minister has had a hand in this directly, because this smells rotten.

Drumming and Cannabis

There is something appealing to the raw side of our nature through drumming. Kids love to drum because they get to pound on something as hard as they can and their parents are not giving them heck for it. It is a great workout, you can get a good sweat worked up doing drumming. It is not only strength you need but stamina as well. And control. Drumming and cannabis go together in a very natural way. You are able to feel the music you are creating on a more subtle plane. You will hear and feel things in your drum or percussion instrument when you are in sync with the other players and it is also a great instrument to use as a solo. Not everyone can do a solo on a drum, but everyone can play a drum - solo. The healing comes when you are part of the group. Sound is power. It can be measured and it can be extremely powerful. Take a gander at the sound cannons they will be using at the G-8 and G-20 meetings. All that is is sound put out at extreme levels(damaging levels). A group of drummers will not get that loud but they can grow much stronger than an instrument meant to do damage. The group acting together is what makes the great music and the healing vibration. As a solo work, the drum is a great tool for doing a "moving meditation". drums have a very earthy nature to them. To some the drum music is a sexual stimulator. As a male drummer, I have seen both men and women dance to the drums. Every single time, the women dance much more suggestively than men. Cannabis is also said to act as an aphrodisiac on women and it helps relax men so that could help a bit to get "in the mood". The earthy nature of both compliment each other and re-inforce each other's effects.

I would like to hear what you have experienced.

Vape part 2

Howdy folks.

The vapourizer does work, but it does not work the way I need it too. It takes a larger amount for pain relief, but there is no harm to the lungs at all. It is like you are breathing air with just a hint of something more. It also takes longer for the vapours to get working than if i just load a bowl and spark up
The pain relief is much quicker when you light up. So, to sum this up I would say if you are going to go the vapourizer route, get the more expensive model and if you like the bags, great, go for them. The model I have has no fan and no bags, just a whip. As a side note, I would prefer to eat my medicine, but my doctor has not said if she would increase my dosage. My card is up for renewal in a few months, so now is the time to get on the paperwork and passport photos. Everyone wish me luck.

Vapour trails...

Howdy folks.

I am reviewing a cheap vapourizer I bought on ebay. First off if you have read my other entries, you will know by now that I am a pipe man. Having said that, You can read my comments with a grain of extra salt knowing where I am coming from. I have gone to that Vapour place on Yonge St. in Toronto. They have the nice but expensive volcano models and other pipes and bongs to try out. Nice place. Friendly people. After my good experience with the expensive models, I wondered if it would still hold it's appeal if it does not have all the bells and whistles. It is not fair to judge it right now on how it delivers the medicine, since I smoked from a pipe earlier on so I would have a sullied sample. It does seem to work. I will have to experiment to see how best to use it. I will also be keeping track of how much it uses to kill my pain. It may end up taking more cannabis to do the job, like when a person eats it,(often between 3-5 times the amount) but not as high as eaten. It may end up using less. I will not know for a couple of weeks or so.

So far on the cheap model (under $100) I have set it for different temps but since I do not have a precise instrument to see if the heating is according to what the digital display says, I can not vouch for the accuracy. I think this is a creeper(the effects are delayed) because I am having a hard time concentrating while writing this.

On that note I will have to continue this as a part 2...

Let me be blunt...

Since this is a full service blog on all things cannabis, I would like to talk about blunts. To those out there that do not know what a blunt is, it is a rolling medium made from the same thing cigars are rolled in. When you smoke it, you get a tobacco flavour and I think a little bit of nicotine, which is not a bad combination. I would not to smoke them all the time like Snoop does, but once in a while at a gathering, it is ok. I am a pipe man, due to the fact that if I am running low on medicine, I just use a smaller bowl and try to stretch what I have. I also like creating pipes. I carve chillums (straight pipes) and regular pipes out of wood on my property, mostly pear wood. Back to the topic. A person can walk down the street smoking a blunt without most people knowing what is smoked is illegal. It smells like a mini-cigar. Certain government officials want to ban blunts like they do wanting to ban bongs and other tools of the trade. If they did, the amount of cigars being bought just to be torn up , will go through the roof.

Medicinal Mike here. The 420 politics around legalization in the states is affecting the government of Canada. They are attempting to ram through manditory minimum sentences (which we know does not work and are being repealed in the states) and they have handed over Marc Emery. Marc, as we all know, is a big pain in the butt to lawmakers. They do not like having him around since he calls them on their crap all the time , every day. He has been at this for decades. He is a political prisoner who should be getting praise for the service he has performed, but instead gets the shaft. I think sending Marc to Jail is signalling the final phase in the battle to end prohibition. That phase is the backlash stage, just before everything we have been saying for years will suddenly become self-evident as common knowledge. Cannabis will be legal before or just after Marc gets out. 2015 is a long ways away. We nned to push all the harder for just a little while longer. It also means I have to step up to the plate and help with all the protests. One note on protests; I would rather fight FOR something then fight Against something. By focussing my anger on Dictator Harper and the Genicide he is embarking on, I am just giving him more power. I would rather foccus on Marc's freedom, which is a much higher, positive place to come from than anger.

I was one of 4 people who held up "Free Marc" and "Go Away DEA" type signs in protest of Marc's shameful incarceration outside MP Van Kesteren's office here in Chatham. I just made 3 new friends and outed myself to my community as a freedom supporter (or everyone just thinks I am a stoner and I just want to smoke legally). These rallies are going to help the movement BECAUSE of the comradery. Dictator Harper has been doing everything to devide us as he unleases genicide on a group of Canadians (look up that word, it means not only to kill a group of people but it also means to kill the culture, just like what happened when Native Children where kidnapped away from their tribes and brutely force to become "White", not allowing them their heritage and speach. We all know how baddly that blew up in the government's face).

We are uniting - We will not go away - We will win. Get used to it! The Truth can not be stopped.

Hello folks.

There is so much to tell , but lets start with the most recent. Marc Emery is now officially going to the U.S. to serve an unjust, politically motivated, seed selling bust. Google Marc for more information (there is just so much!).

This last week or so a video shot by the police of a drug raid in the U.S. has sparked death threats from animal lovers all over the world. First off it showed that they did not even give the owner of the house a chance to get to the do before breaking it down. You can hear several shots and a dog being put down in another room and the police also shot a little tiny Corgi dog ( the same type of dog the Queen of England has). The dogs where shot while a child was still in the house. Apparently one officer missed the big dog, so that means there could be stray bullets with children around. That did not look good on the police as well. They say that all they found was a pipe and a grinder and a tiny amount. Is this proper use of taxpayer's money? Some think not. I have written about this as one of those tipping point events. The straw that broke the camel's back.

Bill C-15 is raised from the dead and renamed Senate bill s-10. The old versions of the bill were bad but I am grateful they died. This one could get rammed through since The Harper Dictatorship stacked the deck in the senate (this is one of those things he said he would never do!).

Many things could happen that could trigger an election immediately; one is the stand off between parliment and the party in minority power. The detainee papers must be shown to the other parties. That is the ruling of the house. If harper does not hand over the cleared documents, then he is in contempt of the government. The party could be stripped of power if the rest decided to form a group government that the G.G. could live with.

We live in exciting times. I will live to see legal cannabis everywhere. It will be legal in the States by the time Marc is done his sentance. Once it is legal there, Canada will be right behind them and Mexico too. From today forward, each day that passes brings the end to prohibition closer to reality. I am looking forward to the freedom!

If you asked my girl what that date is, she would say "my birthday" but most of us here know it as an international day set aside for Cannabis celebrations. Peaceful protests are a good way of getting the information out. The facts about Cannabis and the fact that thousands are trying it for the first time and finding out it works as a medicine. Older folks are starting to take it(mostly in food) but a few are sparking one up to fight their pain. Older folks also need to be educated about vapourizers. The more education that goes on the better. Every class of growers that pass the oaksterdam classes, makes that many more hundreds of plants spring up. Marc Emery Had the Right Idea. Grow just so much Cannabis that it would be impossible for the Government to stop it. Thanks Marc.

Dictator Harper is a Pro Rogue

Our right unhonourable PM shut down the government thus ending Democracy in Canada as we knew it. The good news is bill C-15 is dead. The bad news is bill C-15 is dead and our Dictator will introduce it IN IT"S ORIGINAL FORM to try and shove his version and only his version down the unwilling throats of Canadians. How long can he hide from us? On a positive note many bills in the U.S. are passing for outright legalizing while new states are passing laws for medical use. Good for them. As the news gets out that this plant is far, far safer than all other drugs out in the world and it's ability to heal cancer ( and other illnesses) gets more press all the other states will eventually sign on. Then the rest of the world can ease up, Canada included. Us Canadians will have to find some way to endure our Dictator for as little as possible, since war crimes are part of the cover up this stoppage blocks temporarily. In the mean time the MMAR has (again) been found in position where it is deemed unconstitutional. How that will end, we do not know.

This blog has been suffering from a lack of posts this last year due to the fact that I do a lot of writing on sites like 420 mag and CC. I will try and post more here this year (my new year's resolution!)

After enduring the bush years, the U.S. needed a break. It got it. I am a Canadian, so I am looking at this from the outside, but seeing the city of Washington D.C. being freed to enact a law it voted on a decade ago seems something out of a fairybook. The different ballot signing drives means one of them will be on the ballot for sure. Here in Canada the Senate took out most of the worst parts of bill C-15, because they could see that harper was not going to get his way. If the Prime Minister had his way , every dope smoker (medical or not) would be tossed in jail. The Senate saw that the old bill would only put a ton of small fry in jail and clog the court more than it already is. Good job Senators! Thanks. Marc Emery and Rick Simpson both have had to take some lumps this year. I hope that is all and this foolish prohibition is overturned soon enough that these great Canadian heroes do not have to suffer one more day! 2010 is going to be fun!

There are 2 groups that I am targeting with my pro-medicine/anti-prohibition education.

Police and elderly.

Why those 2 groups you may ask? The answer is most of the youth are ahead of the curve, folks like me in middle age are catching up so the ones who need it the most is the elderly. Why do I single out the police? The simple fact is they have been trained to aggressively prosecute Cannabis, because it is the easiest, low hanging fruit on the enforcement agenda. Pot smokers are easy targets.

Well, those easy days are over. With more people carrying a license to use and carry cannabis medicine on their person's, the police have to tread a finer line. I would personally sue any Officer+ Department+Municipal government who had a chance to see my card and still choose to give me a hard time about using my medicine. It would also be a huge human rights case which I would be happy to stand behind. If a raid EVER happens on my house I will sue to have the city buy my property and help set me up out in the country. I would not be able to live here with out being a target for break- ins and theft. I would force them to have to take care of my plants if I am arrested. There are a hundred ways I could embarrass them and I would hope I would have a chance to get it all documented and loaded on YouTube. The good thing is, in the end I will win because I will have been on the right side of the law. It is their attitude that must be changed.

For now I am not going to push the issue. I do have a couple of college kids willing to do a documentary on me and my efforts to get Marc Emery Freed. All the coverage of any events we do will go on YouTube and be links at some point to some of Marc's sites. Getting back to the education I was talking about. I find the best way to talk to someone about what you want is enthusiastically, but in the case of some hard-of-hearing folks you need to speak clearly and slowly. Your job is to listen to anything they have to say on the subject, meanwhile using your own personal experience you can talk about what you have done in relation to what they have just told you and how it relates back to either the pro-medicine theme or anti-prohibition angle.

It helps to have a list of resources you can hand out, so they can look this stuff up for themselves.There are some things like the fact that the A.M.A. has changed their 72 year old stance on Cannabis. They now what it changed from a #1 drug to a #2 so it can be studied much more. That is big news, that often has not gotten out and old flyers and old websites may still have that old information up. It takes time for the truth to get out, but when it does- watch out.

Fear

I have been busy writing over at 420 magazine and on twitter an a few other places so this blog has been neglected. It is not intentional. This is also harvest season, so my kitchen looks like a huge mess. I now have my card from Health Canada to legally smoke my medicine. Now that I have the (hard won) card, I have to follow all the rules. Here is one small problem I have. The rules seem to be in flux since the constitutional challenges have been winning. Our government is using our money to go against what the courts have ruled in our favour, trying to overturn the ruling or at the very least force the slowing down of progress as it gets mired in the courts.

I have the legal right to use cannabis as a medicine and I feel everyone who wants to use it should have access to it, without fear of any kind( and in a perfect world - no stigma) since it is proven to be the least harmful drug known to man. Fear holds me back from doing some of the activist stunts I would like to do. I have the fear that if I become too well known I will then be a target for robbery from local thugs and harassment from the police. Part of me wants to sit back and enjoy what "rights" I have. Why put myself in front of the firing line on purpose? Another part of me says, how can you sit back when you know how much pain and suffering is out there knowing this single plant can be the cure to many of our personal pains but also our economic woes and planetary woes?

I am fighting prohibition now so my child can raise her children in a post-prohibition world, a world of sanity and chance for peace. My question is how can I best do this without painting a target on my back or possibly putting my loved ones in harms way?

I am open to suggestions.

The MPP just came out with a new ad that is running down in California. It is getting many people very pissed off. Why would a simple ad get so many angry? Because it shows a common medical user as an older woman, kind of motherly talking to little children like. She made a very simple case to legalize it, where she wants to pay her taxes, but the government is refusing that offer. The last comment kind of hurt the most by saying the money generated can go to education of little children, that this governor has taken from the education system. The last words are "Isn't it time?". Everyone knows Arnie is caught between a rock and a hard place. This would be the best way of giving him a big out to legalizing. The others who are anti-pot hate the simple message since they have nothing to attack in it. The worst they can say is it sends a bad message to our children. What bad message is that? Would that be the message that people want to pay their taxes or the message that motherly older women can smoke pot? I do not see any negative message there.

While watching other YouTube debates on this subject I have people who are anti-pot say marinol can work, but the pro person said smoking works faster and better with less and had to repeat several times that people can vape or eat it as well. He also went on to say that the cannabinoids that come out of the smoke has many properties that work synergystically to help heal. He listed off many illnesses that medical marijuana could help and the anti-pot guy could not say it could not, they just change the subject and then try a scare tactic. If the pro person says no death by THC, the others say don't let them drive in cars high, causing crashes, kind of as the last arguement that they have left. They no longer even try to debate the non- leathal nature of it, other than the smoke MAY cause health concerns. The lies happen when the say "you will get such and such illness if you smoke this (new-stronger) pot".

Marinol is 100% THC which the drug companies say is safe. That is about 10 times as strong as the normal pot most people can get. I do not understand the logic. If a pill form is 100% THC and you can get that and use it safely, then why not something at 20%? The stronger pot is a godsend. Stronger pot means you only need a litle bit. You may pay more but you use less so it evens out. I can not see ANY downside to stronger and stronger pot( other than the fact tht I would get nothing done if I indulged. Stronger pot has more THC in it, therefore there would be less tar and other harmful stuff. Since we have already proved that 100% THC is safe wouldn't the logical response be that it is safer at higher levels? Logic often fall apart around ideologies.

Here is what will happen when it is legalized. After the the first rounds of parties there will be a whole bunch of laws to change. That will take years to do. At the same time many countries will do the same. Canada may end up leading the States in this because the marijuana laws have been deamed unconstitutional and many are saying scrap it. If pot is legal then there will be no rational reason to have industrial hemp tied up in any red tape. Hundreds of thousands of businesses will be set up with pot, but then millions of businesses will be created with hemp. Everyone will be working. Tourism will flourish, more respect for the law will come around eventually, a feeling of peace will come over many, drug sales from pharmacies will go down so they will change too. Lower taxes for everyone because we stopped fighting a useless war. I have more thoughts on this, but it needs to go in a book.

Hi folks. As you can tell, I read a lot since my interests are so varied. I have a bone to pick with anyone who talks about food and nutrition and does not talk about hemp. Some may not want to get in trouble because of the plants (insanely stupid) ban in the U.S. and all the equally stupid red tape that hounds the hemp growers here in Canada. Folks- I do not know how to say this in any plainer language; Hemp is just a plant. It has many useful qualities and the food quality is extremely high. It make fine oil and the seeds taste great. The problem is a gallon of organic hemp oil is going for about $180.00 US. That is a huge problem. Because the U.S. decided to ban this plant for no other reason(supposedly) because it looks like it's sister plant , the one that makes medicine and is also used as a recreational drug. We have bred the hemp plant so almost all of the THC is no longer manufactured by the plant and it has been bred to grow much taller than it's sister plant, for it's use as a fibre feedstock. The plant can in no way harm anyone. It does have the ability to provide excellent nutrition, again the thing that no one bothers to mention. We have much more harmful plants growing as ornimentals al over the place, even in government building spaces. None of those plants have to be put under the scope of red tape that the legal industrial hemp plant does up here in Canada. You can walk into any green house and buy some very poisonous plants. No big deal. Suddenly if I want to grow a plant that I can use for food and fibre, It is forbidden to me because I do not have a a huge amount of money, laywers, huge tractors and thousands of acres to put it in as a mono crop. That is insanity. There is no logical basis for it. I can understand putting the sister plant under regulation and tax it like alcohol, but I do not and can not understand the logic behind the redtape or outright ban of industrial hemp. The reason is there is no logic behind the ban. There is however a huge amount of money to be lost if this plant does become an everyday crop like it was decades ago. It is the drug companies, the paper manufacturing, the chemical companies and other interests that will lose market share to this plant, one they can not control and patent. Ah, the light at the end of the tunnel. I see, the people who are really in control tell the governments to keep this plant down no matter what. We can't have cheap, nutrious food, fuel and fibre available to the masses. The powers that be will lose what little control they now enjoy if everyone was self-sustaining or close too it. It still pisses me off that when any news person speaks to anyone about food or nutrition, hemp is never mentioned. Ah, more light at the end of the tunnel. The big money and power people own the news and they tell the news people what they can and can not talk about. Hmmm. Where does freedom of the press and freedom of speach go here? Freedom? Rights? What are they? Something that has been stolen from us and it is something we must take back. If it takes going to jail for life, Marc Emery is the one person who would love to overgrow the government. With so much good pot out there and thousands of people who are getting sick and tired of being babied by the government in this vast nanny-state the entire world seems under and add the issue of medical use of cannabis, you know something fun is going to come out of this big mess. I am a little guy with little land and little money, but I have a brain and a voice. It calls out for freedom and a stop to this insanity. For the sake of our children and the environment and the prosperity of all people alive today END PROHIBITION NOW!!!

Future Generations

Hi folks.

Future generations will look back at this time in history and shake their heads. We are the generation that put a man on the moon and then pissed away that start to the stars. This will be known as the time of constant war- war on drugs, war on terror,war on education..., all these wars formented in order to make bigger and bigger piles of money and to fight for control. It will also be seen as a time of really big stupid things like GMO foods with terminator tech built in. Stupid greedy people came up with that one. One of the things they will really shake their heads at is the fact that we outlawed and tried to irradicate the most useful plant on the planet. How does one go about outlawing a natural plant? You do it by wasting millions of lives and billions , if not trillions of dollars tracking down, jailing and processing (non)criminals through over stressed courts. People in the future will ask simple questions like "Why Hemp?" and then dig in to the discusting racist laws passed in the 1930's to see just how sick and passive the United States was then and by default see how "Big Brother" forced his warpped ideas on the rest of the world.

A breath of fresh air in the form of a vapour. They will also see how at the end of all the maddness many people rallied together to get the laws changed. It was also a time of innovations when it came to the delivery of Cannabis's medicinal properties, in the form of a modern day hookah called a vapourizer, came to be. Post- modern man will understand on an intuitive level that a plant multiplies on a logarithmic Scale and the thugs hired to rip them from the ground is a linear scale. Any government does not have the rescources to do that. Post - modern man will also be closer to nature so they will understand that all it takes is just one bird, eating one seed and then transporting that seed to another area, to start the growth cycle all over again. How can you fight against that? Insanity.

Post-modern man will most likely conclude that the poisons we injected in our environment drove us to be insane and formentors of war, any war ( even if it makes no sense).

Hemp is once more being put on the back burner down in the States. Obama refuses to listen to the will of the people. When he needs support from the people, he will not get it. Farmers are hurting and have been demanding they be allowed to grow hemp. So much in the economy could be changed around, and all it would take from Obama is one piece of paper telling the tax people to hand out the tax stamps for it. The simple and obvious answers get filtered out when the people in charge snicker at the people asking(demanding) the government do this one little thing.

What is happening?

Many small events are going on all the time to push forward the Hemp/Cannabis culture. The new US prez has stated he is not in favour of legalizing Marijuana and all the momentum the movement had thinking that the new administration would be different has kind of chilled out. There was real hope that real change was about to happen. For Obama to openly mock the intelligent people online is something he is going to have to face some day. It will come back to bite him in the backside just when he needs support the most. It was people on the Internet that got him elected, but the powers that be that control the US and funnel money to it is against hemp in general since it is a major threat to it's interests. How else can you explain the stand of the government when it will not allow farmers to grow industrial hemp. That is just plain idiotic and I see a time where the government will be forced to allow farmers to grow. Why does Obama not say he made a mistake. He has done it before and and he will be forced to do it again. The Farmers would be the most vigilnt wathdogs overtheir land since that do not want Marijuana growing any where near his crop since cross polonation would make for a stunted hemp plant and the marijuana would be sub-par and people would not want to buy it. NOTE TO GOVERNMENTS - STOP INTERFERING IN FARM MANAGEMENT- YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Wake and bake your traffic!

which is a great place for free traffic to any legal cannabis sites. We all need to keep going and support each other through these hard times that are coming up. I have a feeling that a ton of new growers will be springing up. I am not holding my breath for the Obama crowd to just let the farmers start to grow hemp in the U.S. without some fight. It is the right and smart thing to do, but politics being as they are, we know that the right or smart thing to do rarely gets done. In hard times, growers of the smokable cannabis will take more chances to plant and protect their crop so I see more fights breaking out over certian outdoor grows. The cops are going to have their hnds full as it is just dealing with more theft, kidnappings and general ba behaviour from people out of work.
The saying "Idle Hands are the devil's tools" may be applicable.You will see a rise in prostitution and other crimes as people get more desperate. The sad part in all this is it does not have to be this way. With one stroke of the pen, the U.S. economy could be put back on it's feet. All the Feds have to do is make Marijuana legal and then the red tape around hemp would be done away with. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of workers would be back to work ovenight if the
feds would get out of the way of the will of the people. Being Canadian means I am talking about my government too. Grow a brain and some balls folks! Lets just do it and get it done and move on with our lives. This time in history will be seen as the the dark ages when mankind was too stupid and greedy to allow hemp to grow so oil and trees could take it's place, with all the corrutions, illness and polution it has caused. Based on the facts, this should have been turned around befor I was born. I am 47 as I type this. How much older to I have to get before I see some real change?

Too quiet?

I just came from a site called mikecann.net that is about Cannabis in all forms. This person is putting out a good quality site about this issue. The last article I read triggered something in me. Most people I know use the Internet to get their information now and there is a good reason why the big media papers are going under. They lack a readership base. The people who still read papers as a means of getting information are mostly people like my parents who do not use the computer much except to give and receive email once in blue moon. It is these people, mostly retired who where the main working force during the worst of the propaganda years against the "Demon Weed". Even they have tried the stuff out during the 70's when it looked like it was going to be made legal. Not all of them of course, but enough that they too know that most of this is just bunk. I know than my dad tried it and my mom accidently had a cup of some marijuana coffee I had made when I was a teenager and in my experimental stage. They know first hand the shame of me going to jail for this weed and they also know first hand the breakdown my brother had when he took a high potentcy acid trip. They know the difference between a "safe" drug like pot and a more harmful one as well as they know the harm of the stronger ones. These are the types of people who have been reading the newspaper every day of their live's mostly to get their information. They have a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to drugs, other than what is prescribed by a doctor. They have been indoctrinated for decades and those are the people who respond to papers and have kept them in business this long. Old habits die hard. Most folks under 50 use the Internet to get their information. Till the newspapers finally fold sometime in the near future, the best way to get the message of truth out is online. After that event , the Internet will be the only way of getting information. This assuming a few things like hoping we will have the resources to keep the internet going and we keep governments out of controlling the content on the net. I could be tossed in jail or killed for speaking out against the policies of my government or the polices of other governments, which I do on a regular basis. That is price I may have to pay in the future, but for now I can say what I want. While we still have that freedom, I strongly suggest we use it to keep it. Cannabis is just one issue but it is such a major issue that once it is dealt with then we can move on to bigger a better things. I do not want to be a Hemp advocate for the rest of my life. I want so much change to happen so quickly that there will be no need to even talk about issues around hemp and cannabis in general. We strongly urge everyone to lend your voice and tell others about good sites like 420 and mikecann. Information on the internet is dispersed thinly. It is not concentrated like it is in a newspaper. Keep that in mind when you post a comment or read an article. Speak up.

I was at a meeting of our local post carbon institute group Chatham-Kent Oil Age Planning group.
There is a big push for re-localization of resources, namely food and water, being the top priorities. Other things the group talked about was something called Transition Towns, where the goal is to make our cities more user friendly, walkable,bikeable and trainable. (don't think those last two words are real words but you get the point I hope). We need to be able to walk to what we need bike to where we work and use the train or bus for long distance travel. For those people who have to commute everyday to work, there has to be a way of cutting down on the amount of travel and pooling of resources.

We also got to the topic of a Hemp based industrial plant opening up to the east of us in our province. Hemp was ready to make a comeback in this area a few years ago, but the border guards held up our shipments to the US and a bunch of farmers lost money on the whole deal, now they are soured to the entire idea. That is very sad for us locally, but the good news is that can change and if more of these plants start up, they will need local hemp to provide feedstock and a local economy in hemp is just the ticket we need. If we have the infrastructure to handle the hemp locally , those farmers in the past would have had alternative markets to sell to.

Part of the problem is political. We still have a government that is on a witch hunt for pot growers and users. The medical use of cannabis is in a quagmire of red tape and outdated morality. Our current government is doing the exact opposite to what is needed by wanting to put a bill through that punished a pot grower with 6 months in jail PER PLANT. I don't know about you, but I don't want my taxes used to build larger prisons and to police and jail a bunch of people who are growing their own medicine. They want to look like they are doing something about it meanwhile their very actions are going to push the cost of this plant up , which means more people are going to break the law to grow it and make a larger profit off of it. Being a Hemp advocate is challenging in many ways. One of the challenges is how do I pay my bills and still do the things I love to do? With site like mine that is working for my 24/7/365, I can afford the time and energy it takes to be a Hemp advocate. We all need to eat and clothe ourselves. I would love to do it all with hemp products, but the prices for hemp is very high (no pun intended). Did you know organic hemp oil is going for $180.00 a gallon! I know it is good stuff, but that price is out of my league. That is one of the main reasons why I am pushing for more hemp to be grown EVERYWHERE. More hemp means lower prices which is good all around. For the growers, they will never be able to grow more than what is needed and they will always get a good price for their crop.

I just came from a site called Change.Org. I am going to give you a link to the page called Ideas for Change in America from this site. http://www.change.org/ideas . On that page up in the right hand corner is a video panel that has Marijuana History 101 in it. I beg, I plead, I ______ (fill in the blank) to watch this film. You will end up shaking your head after, asking yourself why hemp is not manditory to be farmed by everyone.

Once enough people see this and pass it on to more people, large enough group will cry "Enough Is Enough!- We demand the end to prohibition". I am a hemp advocate in Country that where it is legal to grow Hemp, but only after you jump through endless amounts of red tape. If Marijuana prohibition is ended, then there would be no reason for the silly red tape. The more Hemp is grown, used and seen to be a great benefit, people will get used to the idea of pot being free to grow anywhere. This is the time to throw your support to the senators and congress people, looking for ideas on how to get America back on the road to prosperity. NOW is the time.

Businesses are just sitting , waiting to go into (pardon the pun) High Gear with all the small and large businesses that allowing the free use of this plant would bring. Deficit? What Deficit?- We would be happy to pay taxes and get rid of our national debt if we had a free hand to grow hemp anywhere and grow marijuana for medicine and recreation. The governments would be awash in cash. The first country that actively promotes the growing of both forms of Cannabis legally will be the world leader of tomorrow. I am Canadian so I strongly urge the US to keep building prisons and keep the pressure up on those criminal pot smokers, growers and dealers. I want the head start (again pardon the pun) to go to Canada. We would see every hotel and motel booked up for years in advance for people wanting to come up for some R & R. We would not be able to keep the people ( and their cash) out, even if we tried. Oh Cannabis!

$150.00 a gallon

I was looking at some stores online that are selling Hemp products. They are getting $150.00 a gallon for the low grade stuff and close to $180.00 for the organic oil. W O W ! ! ! When it comes time to choose between oil for food and oil for your diesel truck, at that price it will have to be food only. Thoses prices will be forced to come WAY WAY down If/When Obama lets the farmers grow hemp legally. I do not see how he has a choice if he wants his farmers to continue farming and make some sort of profit. I bought a gallon of veggie oil on sale at the grocery store for $5.00 , that is a 3000% difference, more if it was organic. I do know that Hemp oil is one of the best oils in the world for just about everything. You don't want to deep fry with it. It is ok for a little Saute'. It is a wonderful massage oil and great for soap making and lotions and such.

Slippery Slope - To What?

The farmers in the US are sueing the government (or are thinking about sueing,I am not certain where that stands) for the right to grow Hemp. They are strongly urging The US to legalize hemp since it is such a great crop. The only reason why it is illegal is because the Police can not tell the difference between an industrial crop that grows around 18 feet tall that is grown very close together versus a plant that is made to grow short and squat and wide. At every open (and I am sure closed) meetings of concerned citizens with their elected officials, the police and the DEA have sat at the meetings and they dole out the same message over and over. They say legalizing Hemp is a Slippery Slope. "A Slippery Slope to what ?" I would ask. They say it would send the wrong message to our children. Again I ask "What message?". The message I would get if you legalized this wonderful plant is A) The farmers should be free to choose any crops they feel are good for their soil and B)We can grow enough of this plant to use the oil for fuel and never have to fight a war over oil again since everything we make out of fossil oil can be made from Hemp oil or maybe the wrong message they are talking about is the other plant they are refering to is marijuana. Maybe that is it. They do not want our children to know about Pot. They ( in their twisted mind) think that pot is some evil drug that will force the children to lives of crime and lead them to "Harder" drugs.

Ok, let's look this square in the face. Marijuana is the safest drug known to man. It has no level of overdose. It is physically imposible to smoke the amount needed to get that high a dose in your body to overdose on it. I do not have to compare it to other drugs to show that, but just for the record it is safer than coffee, aspirin (and other forms of over-the-counter medicines) and it is certainly safer and less addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. Studies from Europe have not shown any pharmacalogical reason for addiction or that it is a gateway drug. The only way it could be considered a gateway drug is because of prohibition you have to go to a criminal dealer to get it. Since the dealer wants bigger profits they will push the stronger stuff on you. So prohibition is the true gateway device. Studies done in areas where there is limited freedom to smoke, they have found that the use has actually gone down. If they truely want to get people to use less, they would end prohibition.
Lets get back to Hemp - there are very good reasons to want this crop kept illegal. It keeps the police busy fighting a "War on drugs" that they can never win and they have no intention of even trying to win. It would get their budgets slashed if it was. That is why the DEA and the local Cops are always at the table when farmers ask to legalize hemp. They say it would make their jobs impossible to perform as far as the "War on drugs" is concerned. Hemp oil is a direct threat to the big fossil oil business and the military-industrial complex. They would not be able to go anywhere they want to, to fight wars and make tons of money over areas of the world that still have oil. The Chemical, Agra, Pharma complex is also directly threatend by this plant. Big Agrabusiness can not control small farmers who can be self-supporting by growing this crop since it has very little need for the chemicals most other crops need to grow. Marijuana is a safe yet effective drug that works very well to control pain and it has properties that many claim cures cancer.
The Big Pharma complex sees this as a direct threat to it's monopoly on cancer drugs. If you can cure cancer with a plant you can grow in your back yard, why would you mortgage your house to take toxic drugs killing cancer and yourself at the same time? All the over-the-counter pain medicines would suffer huge losses of income to all the pharmacies that push those products.

Ok - now comes the direct benefits to legalizing hemp. Farmers would be able to grow a crop that can help them get by instead of the possibility of folding, mainly due to the fact that you do not have to use hardly any chemicals on this plants, so you do not have to pay for those direct inputs. The wonderful food qualities of hempseed would make people healthier if it was cheaper and everyone had access to it. That would put huge amounts of doctors and nurses out of work as well as the pharmacies getting much less profits. The government also loses control of a population that is healthy and happy. That is a plus in my books!
If/when hemp is made legal to grow in the US, the cops will basically throw up their hands when it comes to marijuana. It would only be a short time till pot would be defacto legal. My question still stands; what bad message is in this? The feeble excuse is it will harm children. I think kids are smarter than the cops give them credit for. Giving kids Ritalin is better for them? Who in their right minds really believes that crap? There have been studies done on young children that have been given small doses of THC from the natural form, eaten or in the form of a subligual spray that has had much better results and of course the fact that it is not toxic and natural is a bonus. Old grannies use pot to be able to get around. Some have said it has helped them stay alive. I have friends who use medical marijuana and they say it has changed their lives like night and day. The people who oppose legalization say it will harm children. The people who oppose prohibition have tons of proof it has harmed thousands of children in broken homes and we are not even counting the kids shot by driveby shootings from rival gangs arguing turf (who gets to sell their drugs where). If you want to score drugs, just ask a kid, they all know where it is and who has it. In the book "Hemp Foods & Oils for Health" it describes the debate around hemp in the US as "irrational" and it goes on to say the concern that hemp crops would aid the production and use of marijuana is unsubstantiated. The good reason is the 2 crops should stay away from each other at all costs. The tall plants will be intermixed with the short ones making it less useful and the short ones would lose their value as a medicine because it will be weaker.That is one of the most stupid excuses put forth. I do agree that hemp made legal would make policing marijuana more difficult,but for much different reasons. Like Marc Emery says Overgrow the Government.

I know this is a separate issue from Industrial Hemp, but if this is true( possesion of marijuana is legal), why is there still all this red tape around industrial hemp? As far as I can see, we are waiting for a judgement to be published from an appeals judge which was rendered in November. I do not know why there has been such a long delay and why have people been busted for holding small amounts since the law was deemed unconstitutional in 2001? I have more questions than answers at this moment. I think I will take the fellows advice in the video and call on my local MP to see what he knows about this. Have fun.

I replied to a business person who was concerned about the economy. Here is what I had to say.

I agree that the economy could be a lot better. I am a Hemp advocate up in Canada, where it is legal to grow Hemp. Ron Paul and others have tried to put out different bills, one directly for the farmers of America to be able to grow Hemp. Hemp is a HUGE business opportunity and it is something so big it could turn the american economy around in next to no time. The problem is the Federal government is overstepping it's boundaries when several States have passed laws that would allow industrial hemp to be grown commercially and the Feds step in and shut the farmers down. As a Canadian I understand that if the US suddenly got into Hemp in a big way, the whole world would follow suit. I am grateful that you are putting out ideas for short term money maker ideas to get us out of a fix in the here and now, but as a business person you also need to look are where the trends are headed.

P.E. Obama has gone on record in the past saying he was for allowing farmers to have industrial Hemp as a cash crop. If he holds to that stance, you will see Hemp products explode in the market place and get much cheaper. Now that will be good for business!

I too am a Canadian and I have been a Hemp advocate for several years now I have a blog dedicated strictly to Hemp at http://myhemp.blogspot.com where I will be putting a copy of this reply. I have used the arguement that as a taxpayer I want my money to going to fight real crime, not busting people for pot. I have said make it legal, tax it like cigarettes and put a portion of that money into rehabs. That would take money away from the dealers and organized crime, free up a lot of cops to do other , more producive things and it would cut all red tape that is now in the way of growing hemp. I don't agree with everything Pammy says or does, but this is one that I do wholeheartedly. Just for the record, I do not smoke , drink or do drugs.

My thoughts on ths has always been make pot legal so there is no red tape to get in the way of growing hemp. The only reason hemp is illegal to grow in the states is due to it's link to the drugtrade. The conspiracy people thinks it is much deeper than that. They have delved into the dealings of newspaper (Media) owners and oil companies and the paper industry it's self. The big money that oil is making now would plummet the second the truth got out that you can grow high grade oil from a plant that can grow on soil that does not need to be soil set aside for food
production.

I feel it is only a matter of time. The sooner the laws get changed the better for all mankind.

The new prez has his work cut out for him. The one question I have is will he make industrial hemp legal to grow in the US? I have some hope since they are facing a huge problem in the economy. With hemp legal, that would open up huge amounts of money for everyone and add a new food source and oil source to the country. That one small plant can turn their economy around in a flash. Survived Spiritsfest-now survival bread..

I have been on a fest high for days after it has finished. No I did not drink or smoke anything to get high(except maybe some smoke from the big fire and I drank in the spirits of the drum). I am finding it hard to get back to my usual hard work routine. I am doing some things I have put off, like all the lawns that needed mowing and some weeding in my garden, but I have had survival bread drying in my oven the whole time I was at fest. It is hard to describe my survival Bread. I do know I put 3 eggs and 4 cups of flour, a bit of baking powder and a little oil, but the exact amounts of jams and cups of hemp and almonds and sunflower seeds. I do know I also dumped some honey and corn syrup and 2 jars of applesauce in the mix. At a guess I would say I put as many cups of hulled hemp as flour. The whole thing was put in 3 bread pans allowed to bake for a long time then dried for over a week. The bread is very high in protein and starches and even with all the jams and honey and apple it is not sweet. It also had a whole can of pears in it. I have know clue what the calorie count per slice is , but at a guess I would say over 500 calories per slice. It has so much concentrated in such a small space. I saved 2 slices out from sealing it up in the food saver bagvac bags. I have over 2 dozen slices dried and sealed in airtight plastic, so they should be good for a few years if I need to store them that long. Happy Hemping.

May 24,2008- Mark it down in History!

May 24^th ,2008 is a Historic Day

What is so historic that happened on May two-four 2008? That is the day that the gas guzzlers died. Well that is not actually true they died a long time ago , they just did not know it since gas prices where too low. What is historic is the news came out with a piece about some “poor” guy who was trying to sell his almost new truck that cost him as much as my small house (about $60,000)and he is still making payments on it ,only to find out the blue book value on it now has dropped to the high $30,000 range. Some people are stuck in this situation where the vehicle is worth less than what is still owed on it. Some of them are going to take a huge loss, others will just use them much more infrequently. Part of me feels sorry for these poor slobs, but another part of me is glad the evidence is so overwhelming that people are getting the message.

Speaking of Gas Guzzlers, we have something called Retro-fest going on around my city. There are thousands of old cars people have been restoring and hundreds are put on display. Some have been sold to the likes of collectors like Jay Leno. I predict that from this day forth there will be less and less old cars coming to this festival since the gas prices will be too huge. Right now we have people still coming from all over but like all tourist activities that will slow down to a trickle or be cut of completely. There will be more short day trips taken that can be packed on a train or a bunch of people in a large van or bus. The long vacations may end up being longer in one place for some people. Other people will have no vacations or working vacations. I will be going to the Spirits of the Earth Festival to do workshops and sell my candles and silver jewelry. That is a 6 day event. I will have some downtime to play and drum and get to know friends better. That may be the only vacation I will have this year.

There are a few more trends I see coming in the short term. Since more people will be forced to choose between paying rent or eating or heating or electricity, more people will be looking to food banks and handouts to get by. Soon there will be little to get by on and people will be tossed in the streets and houses will end up unoccupied which will lead to vandalism, squatting, grow-ops and a general down turn in the value of houses. Land will always be valuable but houses fluctuate.

As a longer term vision I see more people camping out in friend's backyards for the summer and working at any odd job they can find. The cost of stoves will go up since there will be a larger demand for alternative heat sources(at least in the northern States and Canada and other 4 season areas of the world). Hobo's will be making a comeback. Locally we will do ok since we have a salt mine a day or two walk from here (about 70 miles or 115 Km) If you are on a bike with a trailer You could get there in one day I you are in good shape. You would start early in the morning and get there, camp out or find a place to sleep, get your load and head back as soon as you can. It would be better to travel in groups for protection. A better way to get a load of salt is to run a boat down to Windsor and use the Thames as a Trade Route once again. Another reason why we will do ok here is we have an ethanol plant and we have hundreds of potential sites for wind farms. We have some wind generators going up as we speak. Another reason why we will do ok here is we have the Thames and rail as transport routes and we are surrounded by lakes. We are net exporters of food, that makes us very rich.

You may think I have gone off topic of Gas guzzlers, but I have not since all these things are inter-related. The news that people are going to stop buying the big trucks will force many local people out of work. In the short term that is bad-very bad. The potential is for some of these factories that are making gas guzzlers could be re-tooled to make wind generators and solar panels if anyone around here had half a brain. Some people tried to grow Hemp and stopped after one try since the shipment was stopped at the border and they lost money. I am sorry for their loss, but I think that was very short-sighted of them. We missed our first good chance. I hope I can turn that around when I get my own farm up and running. I will not rely on foreign markets to dictate what I will or will not grow.

To sum up – as much as I have seen this coming, the day has arrived( and non too soon)for the beginning of the end of the big gas guzzlers.

Hi Lance.
I have taken this test before. It is interesting.I just finished reading the article,in Chatham This Week that Peter Epp had in his comment page. Back to the future with fuel prices? is the heading. He did mention you and our group.Yah!It sounded like he was pooh-poohing the whole notion of peak oil and living a simpler life. He mentions the fact of 11% as what the normal family pays out for groceries and restaurant food. I think he did not get the point that there may not be any restaurants or grocery stores or even money to send when all of this is done. He is in the world of the vast majority that has been able to go to the store or restaurant at anytime they had the money to go, all their life. He kept on saying that you believe what you where talking about like you are some religious nut. He asks the question(which he already knows the answer to)of do they still build fruit cellars in new houses - of course they don't. He also said he did not know of anyone who canned anymore. It sounded to me like he was trying to warn the public and still cover his ass by reporting what we are saying should anyone accuse him of fear mongering. Yes we all know powdered milk does not taste the same as real milk. He had a hook with everyone who has tasted powdered milk. He did do us a favour by showing if people stocked up now , for the winter, we would see a savings of 10-15% or more in a short time period, assuming things would be about the same as the mid 70's. If we get some good oil price spikes, I think it will be even worse.
As a side note I went to the local station to fill up my 5 gallon tank with gas to use in the rototiller and lawnmower. I took my neighbour's small tank to since she need gas for her lawn mower. Her's came to $12.08 and mine came to $29.00-ouch! Last year I filled both of them and it was closer to $25.00, maybe a bit more. That proves to me that it has doubled in price in one year, or close to it. Has my wages gone up at all in that time period? Yes about 3%. I also have a new source of money coming in since I took on a new part time job, reading Tarot Cards online at Psychic Access. So far the I have made some money, but not much since it costs money to go online and stay online. Now I have to work harder than I did before, putting in a garden and herbs and keep online and work at the bookstore on the weekends. Keep up the good work Lance. What does this have to do with Hemp you may ask?
The Ckoap group is part of the Post Carbon Institute ( from out west) and Relocalize.net (which is an offshoot of the institute) and we are all looking at ways to deal with the problems associated with high oil prices, which means higher food costs and higher heating costs and higher costs for travel,amongst other things. Hemp, if it was freely cultivated on all the poor soil land and land no longer used for tobbaco, would give us food, fibre and oil that can be a feedstock for plastics, gasoline, cooking oil and just about anything that can be made from fossil oil. There is no need for any food crisis, oil shortage, unemployment and lack of trees for paper. This is one big part to an over all solution, but we can't even get anyone to talk about hemp since it is still illegal to be grown in the United States and many other places the States control. Any chance I have to trot out Hemp, I will take.

Healthy Hemp Soup

Hi folks.
I wanted to share my sort of recipe for hemp soup. I call it sort of because it will never be the same twice. Here are the ingredients I know the amounts of. Rice- 1 cup rice to 2 cups water with salt , prepped ahead of time,1 sheet of rough nori (seaweed), the cheaper stuff that you would not use for making sushi, ripped into small bits but into about 4 cups of water and start to boil. then add 2 handfuls of hemp seed, roasted & salted, 1 handful of roasted & salted, hulled sunflower seeds,1 handful dry roasted and ground with sea salt, sesame seeds, about 1 tablespoon of Tarragon and 1 of Basil, dried, from my herb garden last season,2 overflowing tablespoons of red Miso and the final ingredient is a home made seasoning salt made from salt, paprika, onion, garlic, curry and mustard powder, thyme, celery salt,dry dill weed and marjoram. The water may be a bit more and you can add more when you let it sit to let the rice soak up the soup. the sunflower seeds will swell and get soft and the other seeds will float on top. It is a very earthy soup, but very healthy. It is almost impossible to explain the taste. For those who do not know what miso is, it is soybeans that have been fermented. I have no clue how many people that amount would feed, but I know I will be able to live of this for the next 2 days with other meals, like cheese sandwiches and snacks and cereal for breakfast. I need something packed full of energy that I can heat up quickly and eat quickly during my 2 - 10 minute breaks I get when doing my shift as a psychic on Psychicweb.com and Psychicaccess.com . Yes I know, I am more than a pretty face.

I tried something the same but I added dehydrated ham in the soup for extra protein. I have a gas oven that has a small pilot light that keeps the inside warm and dry. I cut up ham that has been cooked already and lay the slices on special drying racks. I figure I have the pilot going anyway I may as well get my money's worth. It is a good system. This year I am going to make a solar powered dryer so I will be able to do that on a larger scale with no investment of fuel (other than the energy I need to make the solar dryer in the first place) .

Enjoy the soup and experiment using other seeds and rice or noodles. Try different herbs . Add sprouts on top of the soup for added greens. Try different soup bases. Write me back at michaelkaer@yahoo.ca to let me know what you have come up with.

Yah, I know, before you get on my case about not posting on my blog, I have to tell you I am now working 6 days a week so I have even less time to post here.

I suggested Hemp would be a great part of the materials he could tap into to make these low cost, grow-yer-own housing. As a side bonus to the great fibre hemp produces it is also a great food source, oil source and to top it of it takes CO2 out of the air. What more can you want from a plant? Why it is illegal to grow is beyond me. Any fool would know that if you wanted a good hemp harvest you would NEVER grow marijuana nearby. Like wise if you wanted a good marijuana harvest, you would make damn sure you would not grow it next to industrial hemp.
Your product would be ruined and it would stunt the growth of the next generation of hemp plants, which you want as tall as possible.

Stupid, stupid people in government are not allowing this plant to flourish. Or maybe they are very smart? If you want to control people, you have to take away their options and buy into yours. Right now that is fossil oil, but that is quickly running out( well actually just peaking, but the same thing in the long run). I better stop here before I go off on one of my really good rants about government stupidity/corruption.

Pot vending machines

Down in LA where medical marijuana is legal by state law( but not by federal law) they have vending machines that despense marijuana. the system works well and it lowers the cost of the pot since you do not have to pay for someone behind the counter to despense the herb. The feds are coming in and busting these because Marijuana has been miss labeled a narcotic(which it is not),also since it is an herb the drug companies can not patent it , therefore make money off it.They put alot of pressure and money into keeping it illegal, while they pedal drugs whith a slew of side effects that do simular things but costs more and does more harm to the body. That is the main reason marijuana is still illegal. The drug dealers and the police want it kept illegal because the drug dealers want a high profit, low cost product to pedal and the cops want to keep taking money from the public to "fight the war on drugs" which , by their own admission they are losing. In tough times we get news in the paper of drug busts that the police estimate the value of the product at aproximately $1000.00 per plant. Desperate people who are working 2 or three part-time jobs to make ends meet may take a chance of about 1 in 5 of getting busted to make one or two bigs hauls of money to pay off their house or whatever. Then we in society have to deal with higher costs for insurance since the grow-opps ruin houses and become fire and health hazards.

What does this have to do with Industrial Hemp( the stuff you make rope and cloth, oil and food from)? It is simple- if government had any common sense they would legalize marijuana, tax it, make a ton of money from it, not have to pay huge amounts of money to the police to continue lossing a costly war and we would have a healthier population to boot.Then all barriers to hemp production would be lifted and the rest of society would benefit from a renewable source of paper and oil and food. It would save trees that would otherwise be cut down for paper pulp. That goes to show the governments that are suppressing this herb are stupid to such an extreme degree as to want a population that is sick and a healthcare system that does not work and lose a war on drugs it can never win to losing control of the people under their thumb. Hemp is legal in Canada, but you must have a lot of money and land in order to grow it(if you get permission to grow it). There are many factors involved, but the simple solution they can't stomach. Governments like control. They will hang on to it till it kills you. Think about that.

Hello folks.
Yes I know I have not been writing since November. As usual I have been busy, but busy in a new way. Harvest season was finished and I was introduced to a person who hooked me up with Psychic Access and Psychic Web. Since one of my many Talents is reading and teaching Tarot I have been working 4 days a week as a professional Psychic. The second factor in this is the harddrive on my laptop died on me and I have not had the time to fix it, with the Christmas holidays and my birthday on New Years Eve taking up a lot of my time, money and effort. I work 2 days a week at a local bookstore doing Tarot readings and Seated Massage( I am also a Certified Reflexologist and Relaxation Therapist). At the store I did a lot of my writing on the laptop which I would download onto a usb drive and upload to the internet here at the local Library. It was a good system till the drive died.

The extra freetime that has been granted me has been put to use reading and researching hemp. The book I am studying is Chris Conrad's Hemp-lifeline to the future. I am finding out some nice tidbits of information like the thin paper used in bibles is hemp, because of it's great strength. The more I am reading about hemp, the more I am getting angry at governments trying to keep this useful plant down. Of course that is the position of oil and petro-chemical industry which in turn controls the government, they would not be able to handle the compitition, with full cost accounting and no subsudies. The other thing I am learning is Hemp can be very useful for ridding the air of CO2, basically binding it up in it's self and turned into useful fibre and other products. From what I have been reading a net gain of 20-30% (or more) oxygen would be given off compared to the CO2 taken in. I think we have a winner when it comes to helping clean up global warming if the idiots in power would get their heads out of the sand and get behind hemp rather than impeading it.

When the shift comes(it will have to, unless we die off first) I do not think we will have a choice but get hemp in to full production in every section of land that is not used for food production. We would be able to leave trees alone, harvesting for lumber only and have a renewed pulp and paper industry using hemp. We would also have a renewable source of cooking oil, heating oil and fuel to drive trucks and trains. I do not think we will be able to afford the car as a species. Many people will instantly say(especially up here in Canada) "We need a car to get to work". Not everyone is lucky enough to work out their home or be within walking distance to work. I agree those are issues that must be addressed. in the meantime, lets get Hemp up and moving as a major industry once more. In it's historic and glorious past, hemp production was never able to keep up with demand. I pray for the day when that happens again.

Ron Paul

What does Ron Paul have to do with Hemp? If he gets into the oval office, he is going to legalize marijuana or rather allow the challenging of the federal jurisdiction, which would amount to the same thing and that would make hemp legal for all to grow. Once it is done in The US, many other countries would follow suit. I think he has a good shot at it, but I am afraid he will be shot just like past Presidents have been. Powerful groups do not want US citizens to be happy and free; there is no money to be made if the people are truly free. What they want is control. The hold they have on the US would slip away and the other countries in the world would be eager to follow the lead of the US, which further erodes the powerful groups profit bases. There is no money to be made in times of peace if you are an arms manufacturer. The military's budget would be cut and everyones taxes would go down. That means you would have more money to spend on what you want and you would not have to work as hard as you do, just to make ends meet . That is simply not in the plan of those who make money off US citizens being scared, unhealthy and unhappy. You can't give a prescription for an anti-depressant to happy people! Thing about it! Hi folks.
I have been busy(don't I start my blogs often that way?)with the past election here in Ontario. The green Party Has doubled once again what vote we got from last time. I know my friend voted green and I know my Mom voted Green and My Dad may have voted green.Those are important votes as far as I am concerned. Since about half the voters turned out to vote that would mean our votes count as double. The people who did not vote have no right to complain. Me, I have bitchin rights. The green party is NOT the marijuana party, but it would be the first to legalize pot and therefore get rid of all red tape surrounding the growing of hemp.We feel it is a waste of taxpayer's money to fund "The war on drugs". It has been proven it does not work and inflating the "Take" from every pot bust(IE: every plant is worth $1000.00 each,maybe if every little bit is sold by the joint...get real)only gets people in poverty to do something illegal in order to earn a living. I am not saying pot is harmless, I am only saying it SHOULD be in the same class as alcohol and sold as such.

On another note I have also been busy on myspace, facebook and now Yuwie. The thing about Yuwie that keeps me going back and doing social stuff there is the fact that they PAY me to do what I was already doing on myspace and facebook. It is a no-brainer. If you have missed my famous rants-blame Yuwie.

Hemp and Prosperity

We need to talk to the folks in power. We have a situation on this planet where a single plant could help save us, and the people in power would rather put more polution in the air and force global warming further than to sit down and rationally think this through. No amount of money (extreme though they may be) will gain them anything if they do not have a place to spend it. We only have this one planet(so far)(Mars will be exploited next) in which to live. If hemp was grown as a fuel crop and food crop and fibre crop all at the same time, we could feed everyone, clothe everyone and keep everyone warm AT A PROFIT!!!. There is a ton of money waiting to be made that will also help reduce the damage we have already made. Lets get this show on the road.

Hemp and The Secret

What does The Secret have to do with Hemp?

The Secret talks about abundance and getting everything you want. Hemp is the one (out of a very few)plants that can provide all the worlds needs. In order to fix the damage we have done to the environment and still have plenty of resources for FUN, we will use this wonderful plant to help reverse the damage. How? the simplest way is for the plant to take greenhouse gases out of the air and put them back in the ground or be turned into paper, cloth, food, building material and plastics. The oil can light our homes directly or by running a diesel generator to power up a battery bank and switch on the CFL and LED lights. The opportunities that Hemp is providing will more than make up for the downturn in the economy when we do the switch over. The old system is near the end of it's useful life and we now are going to learn a new way to live on an abundant planet, in style and grace. Sounds nice Eh? We have a few challenges in our way, but that is not that big a deal. We can do this.

Life is meant to be fun, joyful, full of love and tenderness. Life is also supposed to be about growth and challenges. Sure Life does not always go our way, but how you deal with the challenges is what makes you great or not. Money is easy, wealth is harder to come by.

Senate committees

Hi Folks.

I have not been posting much in the last few months because I have been very busy getting my herb garden in in my front yard and expanding my large food garden in the back. I have also been doing research for the Green Party, which some of you know i am a member of ( Both Provincial and Federal) and I am a member of the Post carbon Institute ( local chapter CKOAP). If that is not enough I have been teaching hand drums to my students and getting more involved in my music. That means my writing has been cut way down,except to all the posts write on various "Peak Oil" and survialist groups. I have not had time to even make Bee's wax candles, something I love to do.

I woke up around 5 in the morning and could not get back to sleep after watching the senate committee talking with industry people about what to do about global warming and how we are going to meet our Kyoto goals. One person said that if we started tommorrow with some solution it would take about 18 months just to get the solution online and running and that is not counting the years of slogging through government regulations. It is a complex issue with no easy fixes according to them.
It was also reported that we are running out of time(some say we are past it, but I am an optimist).

I have an easy fix that can be done in a very low-tech fashion. Part of the proplem is getting CO2 out of the air. Plants are very good at doing that. Treehuggers are against cutting down any trees since they clean the air so well. We still need virgin fibre to make paper so where are we going to get it if not from trees? Yep you guessed my solution. Grow HEMP. Lots of HEMP. The simplist solution is to grow so much hemp that it helps clean the air, and we would not have to cut any trees for paper and you gain a wonderful feedstock of other products like good food from the seed and oil from the seed and cloth, paper and building materials from the rest of the plant. This Weed will grow in poor soil and actually enrich it if the leaves are allowed to fall and proper harvesting methods are used. It does not need much if anything in the way of pesticides or herbicides or fertilizers. I think that is part of the problem. Companies like DOW and Monsanto can not make a big buck out of it, so they will do what ever they can to urge any other crop to be grown because then they can make money off it. Do not hate them for that since that is the job of big souless multi-nationals, they are just money making machines that do not care if the planet goes to hell in a handbasket, as long as they can give the stock holders a return on their investment. In order to do that well, they MUST dominate the business they get into, even if it means going against a great idea.

I see Low-tech solutions to many of our modern problems. It seems no one wants to hear them because they can't make a buck off them. A short list of things i think we need to do NOW is build up a bicycle manufacturing industry ( You do know that Cycling is THE most efficient means of transportation?), Encourage the growing of Hemp everywhere,encourage the growing of your own food locally and set up simple farmers markets within walking distance of large masses of people, in the cores of cities,discourage the use of the personal car in favour of cycling, taking a train or bus and leave the roads to transport trucks untill the rails can be built up again. Those few simple, not expensive solutions will go a long way to meeting our Kyoto commitments and make us healthier as a side bonus.

All we need is the political will.

Trying to survive

I have been doing alot of what I call Peak Oil Work ( which include global warming and other disasters). The more I research Hemp the more I think this could be a plant that could realy help in the long run. Some of my work includes doing alot of reading and writing ong different boards and groups online, research and downloading, and some of it is practical stuff like dating my food as it comes in the door so I use the oldest first. Part of that work is just making money to get me out of debt , pay my bills and buy the prep items I have been researching. I am giving drum lessons today as part of that. I am working on getting money online and here is how I have been doing it. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Doom and Gloom

On the peak oil boards I contribute to often, a discussion has been going back and forth about Doom and Gloomers. Y2K was presented as a negative example of doom and gloom, since many people went overboard about that situation. The extremists took the general premise and ran with it. I think the problem was blown up out of proportion. Yes, there was valid concerns, but I see it as a non-event simply because a ton of money and manpower was thrown at the problem. It was a problem that had a solution; all it needed was the will to get it done.

A whole slew of companies started up to sell emergency equipment and supplies to the frightened masses. I am sure sales went sky high every time a news article about the problem was put out to the mass media. Bad news sells papers and TV timeslots. Many a geek made big bucks for not a lot of work by fixing the bugs.

Peak Oil is a whole different ball of wax. It is a problem that happens to coincide with global climate change and overpopulation issues. There are no easy solutions but there are some bugs that can be fixed. Everyone knows that a CF bulb uses less power to run than an incandescent bulb. Many people have switched out the old bulbs with new ones as the old bulbs burn out. That is one small step forward. Conservation is the obvious first step to the problem.

The problem is many people do not want to change their lifestyle. It is not in the best interest of big business (in the short term) to support lifestyle changes of less consumption. The economy shrinks and a smaller economy mean smaller profits or no profits. The problem is also that a lot of big corporations are under a lot of pressure to continue creating huge profits, so they make many (in my opinion) bad short term decisions that will maximize profits at the expense of the environment and people (and animals and plants).

Big business has raped and pillaged the earth of its raw resources for so long, they feel they have the right to continue. Even Governments seem powerless to stop the pillage since a business simply will pull up stakes after it has drained one area and move to another area or country where they can not be touched. They have a group of lawyers and bookkeepers whose job it is to keep people and governments from stopping their business. They have the money to bribe or manipulate suppliers, officials and law enforcement people to get their way. No government can stand against that. The current U.S. government actually seems to be in the pocket of big business and they are the ones muzzling the scientists who are trying to show their evidence. Since they are only concerned with short-term gain, they are not willing to look at the damage they are causing and in many cases actively stop others from pointing out the damage. Since they can not see past the next shareholders meeting they are blind. The whole economy is going to fall apart from within once the energy is no longer there to keep it going.

There is the crux of the problem – Energy! The economy needs lots of cheap energy to keep it rolling. We no longer have that cheap energy so no matter what the economy does it can not create a cheap energy source that matches the energy output of oil. I think the best we can do is to create as much renewable energy sources (wind and solar generators, geo-thermal, wave…) as possible as well as educate people about solar heaters and cookers and “Hay box” cookers. To stop a wide spread die off due to famine, also educate and encourage everyone to form community gardens and private gardens to supplement what the local farmers can provide.

The people who happen to point out the obvious conclusions of a possible mass scale die off are called Doomers and Gloomers. I guess I would be called one in that case. I am optimistic that we can avert a lot of the damage, but that would mean major voluntary changes from everyone. I do not see that happening in the west, in fact I see the opposite happening. There is still a ton of money to be made selling emergency supplies and I think everyone should have some extra supplies on hand for emergencies. Creating an atmosphere of fear will spur sales of such items and that is what I think happened with Y2K. Commonsense says you should be prepared for power outages, water contamination and food shortages. Insulating your home make sense so you and your stuff stays warmer I winter and cooler in summer, so you will not need as much energy to cool off or heat up. That will save you lots of money. The most efficient means of travel is the bicycle. It is even more efficient than walking. That is something that needs to be promoted in a large way. It also happens to be healthy and fun.

So what is going to happen when the economy tanks? Massive layoffs, massive hunger and money (fiat currency) will not be worth the paper it is printed on; those are the immediate outcomes of a market crash. Doom and Gloom -hell no- that is just reality. Learning skills to deal with barter in a no-money local economy is going to be a major mind shift for many. Instead of a dozen eggs = $2.19 it will
now be a dozen eggs = a bee’s wax candle or a couple of sewing needles or a bottle of apple juice…, a real market will be set up.

Are you able to feed and clothe and shelter yourselves right now? I could for the short term, but it would be difficult during the winter. I am not even close to self-supporting. I have a certain amount of supplies that I could stretch with forage from the countryside and fishing and the amount of clothes I have could last me several years. I just fixed up my house so it should be good for a while. I want more solar panels and I plan on building some solar heaters and cookers. The less fuel I use to heat my place the better. The less fuel I use to cook my food the better. The less fuel I use to get my food the better. I am counting on my many skills to barter with others for the things I will need to survive. Many things could be done at the government level to help me be more self-supporting. If they de-regulated the hemp industry, I could survive that much easier. Do I expect that to happen? No. Does that make me a doomer? No, It just means I have a realistic outlook as far as what I see governments willing to do. Governments do not like giving up power. What they want is more power.

Where does that leave us? In quite a pickle. We are going to have to grow down before we grow back up.

Ingersoll Hemp Farm

Hi Folks.
I saw an article in last week's London (Ontario)Paper about a farm in Ingersol( my home town) that is growing Hemp. The farmer has 200 acres where 175 of the acres are the usual Corn and Soy with 23 acres dedicated to Hemp. He said that the hemp crop was his most important crop since the markets are down on all the other crops. He is basically saying he his getting much more for his Hemp crop than the other crops. He also talked about all the hassles of government regulations he has to put up with. One other fact was mentioned. He said it would be stupid to grow marijuana in a hemp field since the quality of the pot would be extremely low. Too much Hemp pollin would get in the way of producing a good Marijuana plant.

Once The Powers That Be get that through their collective thick skulls, they would put Hemp on the fast track as THE crop to grow. De-regulate NOW!

Seasonal update

Hi folks.

I have been so busy on the running on empty boards or ROE for short to get much writing done here. I am on ROE2, ROE3, ROEca and OWL ( old ways living) as well as others dedicated to alternative energy sources. Here is an update of what has been going on.
1) My house is nearly done. All they have left to do is put in the new furnace. Then the work of re-painting and getting rid of stuff and adding stuff begins. I had planned on doing something with my garage, but that did not happen.
2) My girlfriend's patio is now done along painting the front porch, fixing the front room and painting the bedroom door.
3) The CKOAP (Chatham-Kent Oil Age Planning) group is meeting on a regular basis and we just finished a SWOT of Chatham.
4) I have been buying supplies and so has my girlfriend. We have about 6 months worth of food. I have more months of liguid vitamins( I am aiming at having a year stocked up).

Hemp Rant # ?

Hi folks.
I just saw an older film, made in the 90's called "The Hemp Revolution"
Some of the claims made by the hemp activists are a little over the top, but I write that off as passion for their cause. They made many valid points, namely that Marijuana is still illegal even after many studies showing it should not be, because the drug enforcement crowd and the government( as well as banks and organized crime) make a ton of money on it. They also pointed out the reason is was made illegal in first place was because DuPont saw hemp as a threat to their new processes based on oil and coal. Farmers used to grow all fibre, food , medicine and fuel over a hundred years ago. The Big Oil boys have taken over everything to do with the farm and "Farmed " it out to the Pharm-a-cyst and factories, including food. Once Oil is not to be had, we will be forced to go back to the old ways. Hemp was a major player back then and it will be once more. Hemp has been written out of the history books the same way Tesla was. At the Smithsonian
Institute, all mention of hemp has been removed. The reason given was (maybe not exact quotes)" The children do not need to know about hemp; it will just confuse them" . That is just sick. How stupid do these people think our kids are? Sounds very "1984ish". Big Brother knows what is good for you and you can't argue against it if you do not know an alternative exists

Al Gore's movie

Yah, I know;I have not been around for a while. Summer gets like that. Here is a couple of update and then I think you may forgive me for not being around. 1) my house. My house is getting torn apart and put back together again. They have finished the bathroom and kitchen for the most part. They started on the roof today. I have new steel doors and a new electical system put in. They still have all the windows to do and the furnace.My house will be much safer and warmer, at the same time costing me less. I took my own advice about getting my house in order. 2) The CKOAP group is going to be showing a short movie about sustainable communities. 3) I have been very active on the Running on Empty yahoo groups. I have been both teaching and learning alot.

Hemp as the "New tobacco"

Last night we had our first face to face meeting of the CKOAP group. That stands for Chatham-Kent OilAge Planning group. We decided we were ( at this stage) a practical think tank If there is such a thing. One of the items mentioned was old tobacco farmers could use the land to grow hemp, now that the old market is drying up on them. The only problem would be irrigation, since the sandy soils wouls need a lot of water to get anything to grow. The soil over time would change for the better if hemp was allowed to grow and the leaves allowed to fall off and the roots left in place to bind the soil in a no-till fashion. You would not get a large crop the first few years and you would be growing other stuff inbetween years in order to build up you soil. The bible says take the field out of operation once every 7 years another way of doing that is to have 7 parcels of land and just rotate them. You would be able to use 6/7ths of your land every year. Just a thought.

Future Food

Hi Folks.
I am assuming a massive collapse of the world economy after the American collapse. When is the question on many people's minds. Peak Oil will be one of many factors that will bring this on. In the meantime, prepare as well as you can. I hope I have another 5 years to get my plans in order.One of the main weapons in my personal arsenal to combat poverty and lack of food when the collapse does happen will be growing hemp. Since it has very little inputs and can grow just about anywhere a small plot can do alot. Sprouting the seeds and eating the sprouts will be one main source of protein as well as other nutrients. Roasting the seeds and adding a little salt , makes them a great snack food. Pressing them for oil will allow you to cook other foods in the oil. The fibres of the plant stock will be used for paper, clothes and blankets. The only fly in this ointment is getting the seeds.I know where I can get seeds, there are dealers in every city and town.There is also a hemp grow opperation in Chatham. I may be able to talk someone into giving or trading some of those seeds for my giant sunflower seeds or something else. If I have to search all the back roads of the county to find wild hemp, so be it. It is a weed you know! Currently it is not illegal to grow hemp in Canada, but you have to jump through so many hoops and your operation has to be so large, that you must have lots of money to start with. If I can get someone else to buy the land and get the permits, I would be willing to share in the work and the produce. I have heard people have already invented a machine to break the hemp and get it ready to process, so we would have to get one of them or make it labour intensive and do the work by hand. In a collapse situation, that may be a great labour project.

The plant people

Hemp is an interesting plant since since it has distinct male and female sexes. They are also like people in the way they come in different sizes and shapes and character. Some are like doctors, making painkillers and medicine, some are construction workers making building materials, some are bakers and can be made into bread,some are oil producers making oil... I think you get my drift.

Hemp is a plant you can almost survive on all by itself. It does not make it a god to be worshipped, nor a devil to be spurned. It's just a plant. It is a very successful plant which some of it's products have a value equal to gold pound for pound. It has been vilified, lied about and shunned in favour of lesser substitutes all in the name of greed.

The destruction of the environment is a small price to pay if it keeps the little guy down, poor, sickly and homeless. That is the only sound, logical reason I can see for governments anywhere making it illegal. If governments wanted all their sheep, er I mean voters, to be prosperous, self-supporting and healthy(not to mention RICH), they would be giving hemp seed to every person who had 2 square metres of space to plant something. Instead they make it available only as a very expensive alternative to lesser materials and if you wanted to grow it,you have to be rich and you have to jump through too many hoops ( and do so constantly and update yourself every year at your expense). Obviously the government is tied into the keeping of the petrochemically derived herbicides, pesticides and fertilizer industries going full strength (to poison us quicker?)as well as keeping our taxes high by bloating the police budgets with money to fight a battle that (at the best) they win 10 percent of the time.

If they really wanted to have a war on crime and crimelords, they would make marijuana and hemp completely legal today. If they really had our best interests at heart, they would make tobbaco companies illegal ( the tobbaco leaf smoked by itself in a pipe,if grown organically, has very little damaging effects compared to cigarettes)(it is the proccessing and all the additives added to cigarettes that make them dangerous).

In short, you can say I have reasoned the motives of governments to be the control of the little people(Poor,homeless,uneducated masses) , not to help them, just maximise the the most tax dollars gained (taken,stolen)for the least amount of return. I challenge anyone to tell me my reasoning is faulty. I dare you to give me a valid reason why governments are making the production and consumption of all hemp products illegal or only for the rich and kept out of the hands of the little people. I am only asking for one valid reason. If you think my logic is faulty, coming up with one logical, valid reason why governments should not immediately make all hemp products legal, should be easy. That is my challenge for today. Untill someone shuts me up with logic, I can only assume my reasoning is correct and I will continue express my views and concerns till they kill me.

I am putting this on all my blogs at once since this information is so important. Look at the Archives for the rest of the information I was referring to.

Why be prepared?

My girlfriend is getting fed up with me talking

about ways in which our society as we know it

could (rapidly) change. In my last post I talked

about E.W.E.'s (Extreme Weather Events). In past

posts on this and my other blogs (myhemp,

survival-list, moneyhowtogetsome, moneythebook,

xchangesnumber1 - all blogspot.com like this

one)I have talked about how peak oil is going to

drive gas prices too far up and more wars will be

faught over this resource. One thing I have not

addressed to well(so far) is the next pandemic. At

first people think-Avian Flu and they could possibly

be correct. It does not have to be Avian Flu, it

could be another type of flu. History has shown that

the entire regions where decimated by waves of

flu and plague with a certain regular cycle to them.

According to those cycles we should have had a

bad one last year or maybe this year. Now that

world-wide travel is easier to do, the spread will

be world-wide. Someone is going to hop a plane

to get out of a region that is struck by it, to get

away and in the meantime infects half the

passengers and crew. The crew and the other

passengers do not know they have it till they report

to work that they are ill in a few days. All those

people have spread to other points of the country

spreading the illness as they go. Since some

percentage of the population will be immune, they

may be carriers. If the United States or Canada

decided to close their border and patrol it A) the

cost would be huge, B) they would still not be able

to keep everyone out. We are simply too wide

open. This region of Ontario where I live has alot

of farms that import hired hands to pick crops and

such. One of the migrant workers may bring it in.

They are a multitude of ways for a flu bug to

spread.

So what do you do? Prepare as best you can!.

The Mormans have a standing policy of having a

year or more supply of everything they need. If they

shut themselves in for the few months to 18

months a bad pandemic could last, they would be

one group who would survive. The rest of us will be

lucky if we have more than a week's worth of food

and maybe a couple of bottles of water. EEEENK

( insert sound of buzzer), Guess what- you are out

of the game. In all the research I did for my book,

everyone said you need a gallon( 4 litres) of water

a day to drink, cook food, wash etc. That is per

person and more if you have babies or pregnent

mothers to look after. If you stayed indoors for 3

months or so, say 100 days that equals 100

gallons per person or 400 litres if I filled up every

jug and the tub and sink, I think I could just barely

make it.I would still need 3 months supply of meds,

vitimins and food. I have a 3 month supply of

vitamins and about that much or more in food, but

my prescription meds I can only get a month at a

time. Ok lets say you have 100 days worth of

water, food and what not, what are you going to do

with yourself for 3 months indoors? I will not be

anywhere close to my girlfriend since she will be a

frontline worker, if and when it breaks ( she works

for public health). I have a large library of tapes

and dvds I could go through. Lots of music

besides. I have music instruments to play, a

sewing machine to work on, silver wire and hemp

twine to make jewelry with, about 50 pounds of

bee's wax to make candles with and lots of books

and magazines as well as the internet and TV to

watch. I can do Tai Chi exersises to keep fit.

Great. Now what happens if the electricity or gas

shuts off because too many people running them

get too sick to work? Right now I have a couple of

small solar panels that could charge a battery long

enough to charge my laptop. I may still be able to

get online even if the power goes off, but it will not

be for long periods. I have enough propane to last

a few days if I used the grill in the garage to cook

my meals and heat water for coffee and tea. I

would use up any fuel for my camp stove, but I

could not be able to heat my house. It would mean

a cold winter covered in blankets and heavy

clothes. It would mean not being able to wash my

clothes. It would mean no shaving, who cares I am

not going outside anyway. It would mean I would

survive but just barely. I would have to have

enough cash in the house to pay for my meds and

phone them up to deliver them, putting the money

in my mailbox and getting them to put the package

in the mailbox also. I would have to get it with

gloves on and a face mask and spray the bag with

a bleach/water solution as well as the actual

bottles. Garbage would have to be stored

somehow. It is do-able for 3 months, but right now

it is not do-able for any longer time period.

Can you see why my girlfriend is calling me Mr.

Joyfull and Mr. Happy? This is enough to depress

almost anyone. Don't shoot the messenger,

instead plow that emotion into saving your own

butt. The Government at all levels will be too

overwhelmed all at once to help much. You must

help yourself. I hope you pass this on to a friend or

even an enemy ( if they work for public works or

the gas company) the more you do now , the

better off you will be later. Buy my book and read

Shannon is a trendsetter!

I was working at the Women's Expo yesterday doing Tarot Card Readings, Seated Massage and selling my bee's wax candles and silver jewelry. I was lucky to partner up my On The Spot Massage with Kim Taylor of Isis and Co., so I did not have man my booth every second. That gave both of us a chance to go around and see the other booths. The one I saw that caught my attention was a guy selling hemp products. I did not have a long time to chat, but I think he was a local person(most of the booths were). I don't know if Shannon started her business before him, but she is a trendsetter. More people are getting wise to the vast potential of hemp. For this person to have a booth this year and not last year means Hemp is becoming more mainstream. That is great news. The more people buy the larger the demand, the bigger the market and the lower the price. The products are coming down in price every few Quarters, so the question is will the price drop lower than the cost of inflation for real savings?

For the moment prices are stable because supply and demand are both low. That is changing. Demand is picking up as more people get on the hemp bandwagen. Since we in Canada can grow more than enough with our worse soil, supply will alway catch up to demand and surpass it. Right now I am thinking of mainly of food products hemp can replace or enhance, but it is open for all the products hemp can make.

I ran into a spot of trouble when Shannon had asked for a certain font to be used on her site. I have never had to imbed a non-system font on a website before and the program I had to do it was causing me grief. I found a way to work around it and get the site looking closer to what she wants. I have to still add some more photos and update the prices. Once she hands me the shipping costs for her items, I can get to work on the shopping cart. It doesn't help that I had 2 emergency computer repairs to do for a friend and her mother this week. I may have been able to get abit more done on it. I also had to(wanted to)spend some time with my girlfriend and had a chance to visit her son and one of my friends in London,on the weekend.
No rest for the wicked!

A reason for gratitude

The more I work with hemp products, The more I feel grateful. Even though we ( here in Ontario, Canada) are so dense about the full scale growing of this miracle plant, Our countrymen to the west are going full steam ahead. Not only is Alberta known for it's wheat and oil, it is fast becoming the Hemp capitol of Canada.That makes me feel good. Once local farmers see it can be done and how it can be done, they should jump on the bandwagon. They were burned in the past because the idiots at the border south of us refused to let our hemp go to a buyer in California. They set back hemp product here in Ontario by years or decades. My friend Ken, the guy who ran for the Green Party locally, said the solution to this problem is to develop local markets first, before shipping extra to ANY place else...; a common solution to more than just this problem.

Hemp could be a solution to many problems we have here in Ontario. We need to wake up and see the posibilities. My book "What Money Can't Buy" (available at www.mjk-private-income.com) talks a bit about the problems we will be faced with as well as hemp being one of many solutions out there.
I hope people who are reading my book are passing the information on to others. That is why I wrote it and why I am writing this.

Bush said the States is addicted to oil. Big deal, everyone knows it. Yet he had to say something- I will give him partial credit for telling the truth for once. He also mentioned (dare I say it?) Alternative fuels. Why he would pick grasses and talk about chopping up more trees rather than growing some good ol' hemp is beyond me. That is my observation for today.

Hemp Hearts

I popped in to Shannon's store, Mystic Mountain, to drop off some new wish candles and a small piller candle. She is almost sold out of my hand-dipped bee's wax tapers, so I have to get working on making more. She had hemp hearts in sample bags for people to try. She also had other stuff like hemp granola and hemp cremes (for chapped lips I think). Hemp can be used for so many products, it should be made manditory that every farmer grow some, like they did in our North American history. In China they sell the seed by the ton for bird seed. Getting back to the topic of hemp hearts, we (my girlfriend and I) were at a family gathering ( her dad's birthday) and I got talking about hemp hearts. One of the family is diabetic and another has alergies to wheat so when we gather the topic of different types of food comes up often. Since I have been eating hemp hearts on my cereal and in soups and yoghurt, I feel I have an informed opinion on the matter.

It tastes kind of nutty and it can be eaten by itself. It does not need to be refridgerated and it can be used in all types of food. You can grind it up to make a paste or flour or buy it as flour ready made. It is high in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids (the good fats),high in protean and has lot of calcium and fiber. This stuff is great for low carb diets. I have found it gives me lots of energy. A whole other factor that the hemp hearts I consume where made here in Canada, so the money stays here in Canada.That just happens to be a bonus.

Local farmers got all excited about growing hemp and they got a buyer in California lined up to sell everything they produced.They lost their shirts! The border guards stopped it because they ( big business and big government)do not want us little people to A) make money and prosper B) grow crops that require very little inputs and is good for the environment C)grow something that would but the cotton industry in a downward spin and D) grow something that we could eat and be healthy, requiring less health care and pharmacies. Big business knows it pays to keep us down, poor and sickly. Governments around the world can't stand any people who want to be ( Oh My Gosh) self-supporting. Look at the persecution heaped on the amish and other back-to-the-land groups.

I am starting to rant so I will shut up now-DON'T get me started.

Ma and Pa

I was out with my mother and father today. This is somehing I do on a weekly basis since they live about 45 minutes outside Chatham. Dad is not hobbling around quite as much as he did before the hip replacement and the other two operations he recently had. We did the rounds of the local discount shops like goodwill and in the process went to the pharmacy to get their meds filled. We always have fun and it is a cheap day out. If I need anythng out at the Big Box stores that is the time I get it. They have to go out there to fill their scripts anyway...

I don't like the big box stores but I often cannot find the item I need at the local downtown mall or local(bike riding distance) stores. After viewing a documentary called "The high cost of low price", the Walmart movie, I try hard not to give them any business. If you saw the movie, you would not want to either.

On the way back into town we stopped into a store run by a friend of mine, Shannon, called Mystic Mountain. They sell alot of hemp clothing and other hemp items as well as fair trade items. In amongst all that good stuff is some of my Siver jewelry, Bee's wax candles and drums. She is doing a brisk business and creates an outlet for local craftspeople like myself to sell their items. That is the way more business should be. Ken Bell's picture was smiling at me from her counter where she had his fliers and Green party buttons to hand out. The Green Party and Hemp go hand in glove, in this case hemp mitten (made by hand).

I pray for a day when hemp and hemp products are cheap and abundant so we can all have clothes that last 10 times longer than cotton and it does not cost the environment dearly in the form of herbicides,pesticides and huge amounts of water, like cotton does. I look foreward to a day where I can build myself a car with a ceramic engine block and hemp materials make the body, interior and produces the gasoline or alcohol to run it. That is a wonderful future.

Up in Arms 2

No doubt you have seen some coverage of the boxingday shooting in downtown Toronto. If you have not , you have not been on the internet, watched TV or read a Canadian newspaper. I don't know what kind of coverage this got in the States and the rest of the world, but it is everywhere up here. A 15 year old girl died because of a couple of gangs having a shoot out(I'm assuming) over drug turf. I know the area very well from my days as a Yonge St. Busker. This all took place about a block from where I used to play music and sell t-shirts. There was one gang that took over a local pinball and video game joint (that is no longer there) where if a fight broke out over drugs, knives were flashed, not guns. This was back in the 80's and 90's. Times have changed. So has the area and so has the weapons. The city thought that if they cleaned up the area, the drugs and the dealers would just go away. Tough cops hassling the kids,punks,users and small time dealers, as well as us artists and buskers did nothing but make the dealers hide it better. If pot was made legal way back then, we would not be in the same situation we are in now.

Alcohol or smokes are most kid's gateway to pot and then on to harder drugs. Raves have changed that scene too. Now they go to an alcohol-free event and take pills to get high. Smoking is frowned upon so pot smoking is also in the same class. A large percentage of Canadians have tried marijuana at one time or another. You can get it almost anywhere and people of all ages (Pierre Burton!) Smoke pot on a regular basis.

If it was made legal, a huge amount of money would be shifted from busting a bunch of peace-loving dope heads, clogging our Justice system and the manhours police work looking for pot in corn fields all could be turned over to fight the hard drug dealers. The money raised by taxing the pot like cigarettes could also be funneled to the police as well as to fund more treatment centres and addiction counseling. That little girl should not have died and it may have been prevented.

As a side note the one gun that was immediately seized was not registered so it proves what a farce (huge waste of taxpayer's money) the gun registry really is. That is my rant for today and I am sticking to it.

Up in Arms

As I am typing this, a group of farmers, mostly from southwestern Ontario are going to be protesting (again). They say the protest is not just about the price of corn( or lack thereof), it is about the continueing higher cost of farming and no or low returns. We need Farmers. We need to eat. Why the hell are a bunch of idiots in government(municipal, provincial or federal) allowing the U.S. to dump their subsudized corn up here when(selling it to the local ethanol plant) kills off any incentive for a local alcohol production facility that is economically and environmentally feasible. The polution from the trucks hauling the corn from the states is an added tax burden on us directly through paying higher health care costs, due to the unneeded and wasteful shipping practices now in place.

What does this have to do with Hemp you ask? If the farmers seriously got their heads together and forced an open market for hemp products, we would see bumper crops and more farms starting up rather than what is happening now, a rapid decline in the actual numbers of farms. Most of them can not even really be called farms, just food production centres. Food factories.

With the Federal election on it's way, now would be the perfect time to put the bug in the farmer's ear about the wonder-weed that can safe their way of live and our society at the same time.

My friend Shannon at Mystic Mountain and my friend Jim at A Life full of Books,both here in Chatham, Ontario, gave me permission to mention their stores in connection with my ongoing research into hemp and hemp products.Mystic Mountain sells Hemp clothing and other hemp products, as well as some of my drums, Bee's wax candles and Silver jewelry and A Life Full of Books is a bookstore that I work out of in the back room. I have written whole books back there and used material gathered at the shop as a starting place in my research Some People would be paranoid of even talking about hemp because of it's strong connection to the recreational use of Pot and the fact that (for some silly reason)it is still outlawed while other drugs like alcohol, nicotine and aspirin have been found to be more harmful than Marijuana.
People have overdosed on aspirin. There has never been a case of overdose on pot. I have not been able to find one at any rate. I could be wrong. If you have documented proof of that I would be interested in taking a look at your proof and have a chance to cross check your sources. On to the next use.

It was brought to my attention that before there was a gold standard for money, hemp was one of the most common means of exchanging currencies. If we ever wanted to get off this crazy money system we have now, we could go back to hemp. This universally useful product would give developing countries a chance at levelling the playing field as far as world economics goes if we were on the hemp standard. After the time of chaos and adjustment, going on the hemp standard would mean stable prices for all goods and a way of standardizing the world's standard of living. When we were on the gold standard, only the countries that had gold could participate. With hemp, every country could participate. Instead of dollars and cents we could have bales, buds, stems and leaf. You could own stocks in stalks,printed on tree-free, hemp paper.

Support your local hemp guy

If you have read my other posts on this blog and at Survival-List and Kaer Package you will know I am a Green party member. The Green party is all for replacing fosil fuels for renewable ones, replacing trees with alternative fibre, replacing farming practices that have a high chemical cost for ones that do less damage or none at all. The list goes on. Hemp foots the bill perfectly. It has been proven that hemp improves the soil it is grown on and the fibres easily replace trees at a ratio of 4-1 (1 acre of hemp makes the same amount of fibre as 4 acres of trees) and if you multiply that by the time it takes to grow a tree (say 25 years) than that ratio goes up to 100-1. Hemp does not need any chemicals to grow-its a weed for God's sake.
Here is where we get into the support area. One way you can support hemp is to look for your local green party member and help with their bid for office. We have a federal election looming on the horizon here in Canada and I am helping my local Green person, Ken Bell go to Ottawa. We want to run Ken out of town so he can spread his good to the whole country instead of being selfish and keeping him to ourselves here in Chatham-Kent/Essex.
That is another use for hemp, getting into office. The reason we are not able to freely grow hemp in our back yard is political. The way to fight to regain that freedom is in politics.

Eat My Shorts!

100% Hemp

That is what the tag said when an actor friend of mine, Howard , pulled down his pants part way and showed me the tag from his new shorts. This was in Toronto in the late 1980's when hemp clothing was almost unheard of. Some paranoid people thought you could be arrested for wearing hemp. Flash foreward to the mid first decade of the 21st century and there are hemp stores in small hick cities like Chatham.
You can get hemp shoes, shirts, pants, boots, socks, mitts and caps. You can also get other things made with hemp like hemp soap and hemp jewelry. There is a way to eat hemp ( and no I am not talking about hash brownies or cookies, though I may write about that in future installments). Well actually more than one way. The easiest way is to just pop the seeds in your mouth and chew them as is. They are extremely nutrient rich. The oil from the seeds can be used for cooking and adding to your baked goods. The seeds can be ground down to a flour or paste, popped like popcorn and added to nutbars and snack foods. Have some in your breakfast bowl added to porridge.The roots and the leaves can be eaten in a multitude of ways.

Yep... eat it, wear it, burn it as fuel, build with it.. the list goes on.

I recently went online for a search on something to do with worms and found a site that deals in various seeds, bird seed,animal feed, human feed. They are based in China where hempseed is sold in bulk as birdseed. They grow alot of hemp in china because they are wise when it comes to useing every bit of land to feed and clothe their people. They have had to be. It is a status symbol to wear jeans made from inferior cotton because it means such a huge outlay of money and resources and land that the regular hemp clothes does not. The hempseed is so plentifull in china it is sold to feed the birds! I pray China does not totally submit to the western culture of waste. I do not think they can. The efficient use of materials in China is what makes it a force to be delt with on the global stage.

As a side note, if I had written this during the McCarthy era I would be labeled a "red" and tossed in jail. I am grateful we live in (somewhat) more emlightened times.

It was easy to google the Canadian laws around industrial hemp,just google
"industrial hemp canadian law". If you see the prohibitively long list of hoops you must jump through, just to have a couple of plants in your garden, you will understand how difficult growing hemp can be. You basically get a licence for a year, only if you are a certified member of a growing group and you can prove you are a breeder and on the whim of the minister. The testing procedures are expensive and a large waste of time. Luckily it does say that you can own the by-products and sell them fairly easily. This leads me to my 3rd use- jewelry.

I can go to wal-mart or many other large stores and get a large roll of hemp twine. I also buy glass, ceramic or wood beads there that have holes large enough to put the twine through. With those items I braid, knot or crochet beaded necklaces, bracelets, rings and anklets. I sell them along with my drums, bee's wax candles and Stering Silver jewelry.

It is more expensive than cotton string yet it lasts forever compared to cotton. Speaking of Cotton vs. Hemp, did you know cotton uses a vast amount of pesticides,herbicides and fertilizers (all made from oil products) just to make a fibre that is less durable than hemp. That makes it more costly from an environmental viewpoint, and a monetary one. Hemp needs little or none of these and if you let the leaves fall off the plant, it would fertilize the soil naturally. It is only by restricting the production of hemp that allows the cotton growers to sell in any quantity meanwhile adding huge profits to the oil companies.

What oil company or cotton farmer or logger or wheat farmer would put up with a wonder-weed that could put all of them out of a job? The answer is... the smart oil company, fibre-farmer, logger or wheat farmer. The smart ones would add this crop in a huge way while taking their time getting out of the more intensive, intrusive farming methods.

That is something to think about till next time.

Well, not a complete halt. Hemp is one of the most important plants the planet has to combat the continuing trend of big business and government pacification of, and stripping away the rights of, all citizens. This trend is not confined to just one country. One of the worst offenders is the US. Any government who attempts to micro-manage their citizen’s lives is guilty. The Green Party, as a political entity, is the only one that has a voice worldwide. All other parties are country specific.

I have been honoured with the responsibility of being a delegate for my riding. Those who do nothing politically, have nothing to complain about. I have bitching rights! I vote. Any time I am called to vote on anything at any level, I vote. If I don’t vote, I don’t have the right to complain. Governments want power and they gain power by controlling the people they govern. A self-sufficient person does not need much from the government. Keep the roads clean and upgraded, build bridges, keep order and assist individuals in co-operating to mutual benefit. That is the role good government should have. When the government does more, it interferes in the rights of individuals.

In the case of hemp, that interference has reached extremely high levels of stupidity or vicious cruelty. To them hemp is evil because it can give us all real freedom. Freedom from big business to make our own food, clothes, paper and fuel. If we could make our own, we would not need their inferior products.

In the meantime I will be going to the AGM and vote with my head and my heart. The other parties steal our policies and use them to look good to the public. They choose the easier “sexier” policies and walk away from the tough ones. I say lets make the best policies possible and hope they steal all of them. I do not care who is in power as long as the policies are implemented. Wish us luck.

Hemp Revolution

As I was going to sleep last night I thought of a use for Hemp that would not be normally thought of. I was thinking the use would be as the rallying point of a revolution mostly in the US and in Canada and any other country that outlaws the growing of hemp. As I was drifting off to sleep I was thinking of how the momentum has almost reached critical mass and the old BIG OIL regimes are seeing the writing on the wall about a limited resource they have. The days of old where a few select people can lie to the public and get away with it are over. I am talking about the Hearst newspaper empire that drove the lie home through it's abuse of power. The vested interests of the day gave their hearty support and $ to get the laws changed in their favour after the news created a mass fear of "marijuana","mary jane" and "reefer".

With the internet comes a freedom of information that cannot be stopped, so I figure it is a matter of time and age of the old boys in power to finally die off and make room for the new people who can see the blessings Hemp can give if we only give it a chance.

I see one state after another fight the feds on the right to grow hemp till it is going to force a change. When the farmers find out how they have been lied to and what a great cash crop Hemp is, they will be busting down the doors of congress to demand justice be restored.

Here in Canada we still cannot openly grow hemp, but more and more people are getting on the bandwagon. All the tobacco farms that have been crying the blues can turn that land that is good for nothing else , into good land for hemp. They would be able to build up the soil with the use of natural vermiculture and organic means since hemp needs little or no pesticides and fertilizers. All the crap they were forced to add to the soil to grow a crop that kills people can now be turned around to something much more usefull.
